A year ago this weekend I moved into my new place :-D I can't believe it's been a year already. I would have moved in soner but I had one issue after another with getting a hardwood floor installed :roll: I like it here, minus the PITA person upstairs. The last unit in the complex closed last Friday :smile: Management is in the process of getting a board of trustees together.

I was thinking of rearranging my dining/living room furniture. There's a unit in the complex for sale by owner and I saw the online listing with pictures. It's a similar 1 bedroom like mine and I like how that person's dining/living area is set up with the dining table and sofa along one wall and a bookshelf, computer desk, and tv on the opposite wall. Right now I have the dining table up against one wall, empty space where the modular playground used to be, the tree in the corner along that same wall, and the sofa on the opposite wall. I guess the layout is fine right now, though.
 
morning all -

Well, the new kitties have been here for 4 weeks now, and they're finally starting to adjust to their new home. They're still skiddish when the dogs are in the house, but it's getting better. Esther is going to be good friends with them in no time. She's a pretty bold little one, and doesn't seem to mind dog kisses in the face. :shock: Polly is coming downstairs from their safe room (my spare bedroom) more often now. She even wandered into my room the other night around 3 am, while the dogs were there, and jumped up on my bed for some pets. She ran off pretty quickly when the big girls started to stir though. ;-) So, it's taking a little while, but I think everything is going to be fine. The dogs are not as excited when they see the kitties now, which definitely helps. They're willing to just stay put and watch them walk across the room. That's a big improvement over 4 weeks ago, when they could hardly stand seeing them through a baby gate from the next room.

On another note, I'm a little stressed out for my sister today. She's has a petsitting business in Virginia, and she called me the other day about a client whose cat was just diagnosed with FD. The owner is not hometesting, and the cat has only been on insulin for a week (having curves done at the vet), and she has to go out of town and wants my sister to inject the cat while she's away. I gave her a million reasons why this is a bad idea, but I got a voicemail from her this morning saying she reluctantly agreed because the vet thought it would be best for the cat to be at home rather than at the vets office all week. She was at the house this morning and wanted to know if 2.5 units of lantus seemed like an appropriate dose. I tried to call her back, but she didn't answer. I have no idea how big this cat is, and I know it's only been a week that he's been on insulin. He's also not a big fan of hers - she hardly even sees him when she goes to the house. I want to tell her to get a meter so she can test the cat, but I don't think this cat is going to let her do it. Shoot - I'd even PAY for the meter and the strips if she could do it. I'm just so nervous for her and the cat!
 
@Squeem -- that video is so darling!

@Kristen -- Yikes! What an awful predicament your sister is in. On one hand I'd hate for her to be liable if anything goes wrong. Then again if I were the owner, I'd hate to come home to a vet bill. Has she been able to connect with the owner?
 
Why not get her to get a free newbie kit and show her how to do it. She doesn't know how lucky she is having a petsitter with accurate diabetes advice. She may bond with her cat over this too.

(((((Barb))))) Your post yesterday has filled my heart for the day. WOW. I know kitties are meant to find us and be ours. Just after you told your story yesterday about how Tori decided she was yours and your heart new it. *happy tears* Wishing this new little bundle will be yours to love.

My gosh Leroy is adorable. What a pretty trill. I would be smiling from ear to ear if one of my cats would do that. What a sweetie!!!! You can reorganize your furniture any time - human enrichment ;)

Linda I am wishing they bond also. I think the safe introduction like you are doing now will go a long way. Sending hugs.

Ella it just amazes me that people return animals to the shelter. Stu had a wonderful life with you. Victoria will have a permanent lap with me. I'm so glad the people didn't treat her bladder infection. If they had she wouldn't be mine.
 
LOVE leroy's trill! that's exactly the sound that Anya makes. she only meows when she's "killed" something and is bringing it to me. the last thing was a plastic bag. when i hear her meowing i know she's proud of herself - the rest of the time it's trills.

i found a ziplock baggie of rubber bands in the middle of the living room floor yesterday. later in the day there was a plastic bag that had a new cupboard door handle in it (bought 11 to put in the laundry room and bathroom when we get to that point so they'll go with the rest of the kitchen hardware.) i also saw a baggie with dried paint on the inside - no idea where the paintbrush that was in there went. now you're going to think we're pigs, which we're not, but we've had all this remodeling going on and things are just piled in the laundry room and the basement - and that's where she goes fishing for things in plastic bags. she kills them and then brings them out to share.

sometimes in the universe, kitties pick us, Barb. i think you've been picked by the little tuxedo girl!
 
forgot to say that i love those harness thingies. those would be SO incredibly easy to make - especially since they show you the basic pattern when they lay it out like that. i wonder what they use for a fastener.

and i'm thinking punkin would be humiliated if i put one of those on him. it'd have to be a "manly" kind. he's sensitive, but i just can't see him in brocades! :lol:
 
You could make him a leather one with them stud things on it. Black leather. Men seem to get a testosterone boost no matter what their belly looks like in black leather.

I don't know how to sew so I don't think I'll be making one any time soon. I'd rather pay for a pretty one. I'd put Henry in one that made him look like a King although he acts more like a princess.

Kristen, When you get your sister on the phone, advise her not to give this newly diagnosed cat such a large dose. Tell her that most cats here start out at 1 unit and that she shouldn't give more than that, especially shooting blind (or give even less--a token dose). I can't imagine the situation!! The vet and the owner both sound like they don't know what they're doing.

So glad that the new kitties and your pups are adjusting. Nice to hear from you.

well, i still haven't been able to talk to my sister, but she did text me and said she'll call me later. I asked her to not give the cat anymore insulin until she talks to me and she agreed. I just sent her an email with all kinds of links so she can forward it to the owner.

You made my day Celi :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: I read or heard somewhere that our hearts are like gas tanks - they need to be topped up. Every day I see and hear things that help fill up my heart. I'm conscious of it and really feel it. I agree - Barb's story yesterday had my heart overflowing LOL.

I'd need to get a smaller dining table first so that the sofa and side table would fit along that same wall. The one I have is a bit big. It was the best choice at the time and I felt kind of pressure to just by something by Mom :? I was thinking of something like this or this or this. The last one includes 4 chairs while the other two don't. The table I have now could be given to Mom to replace the rickety falling apart metal table she's had for the last 40+ years :shock:

My brother finally got around to installing the double curtain rod thing for me. There was nothing wrong with the single rod I had but I wanted sheer curtains behind the blackout ones to sort of filter the bright sun I get every day. And the PITA person was upstairs at the time :? I could hear him loudly walking around. It was nearly 2pm when my brother finished drilling the holes and hammering in the drywall anchors. That should not be an inconvienent time for the person upstairs. I'd be so pissed if he complains to management about it grumpy_cat

Whew - finally got to talk to my sister! She was very nervous about this whole thing, but the owner kept telling her everything would be fine. I told her to drop the dose to 1u, and she can blame me if the owner's upset when she gets back. I sent her a bunch of links, including to the dosing protocol and what to do in case of a hypo. I told her to print out the hypo sheet and take it with her when she goes to check on him. She thinks the owner would be willing to hometest, so I also sent her the link to get a newbie kit, and the link to Emma's spreadsheet so she can see an example of one. The owner had already heard about felinediabetes.com before my sister mentioned it to her, so hopefully she'll be joining when she gets back on Monday. So, fingers crossed that 1u isn't too much. I have no idea what his numbers are - neither does my sister - but he's a big boy, somewhere around 14 lbs.

This is a video DH sent me from his iphone. It is of Victoria. Should I call her an adopticat or a Civvie? She's normally quite agile. She's a black kitty (black tips but grey undercoat but she looks black) so it is so hard to see her in this. I tried to use iMovie to lighten it some. You can hear DH starting to snicker in the background. PS... the fan in the window is not on. It's something DH put there tonight and he got a huge lecture about it. Men!
