Hello Everyone! Peyton has started sneezing and I would like to give him something to make him feel better but I'm not sure what. I have some Lysine treats but he cannot have those. There are too many ingredients and maltodextrin is one. Any suggestions?

I hope everyone is doing good. Sending vines to those in need.

Hi Julie,

Lysine is also available in a powder form without all of the added extra ingredients. If you can get some of that, a little bit can be added to his every meal, instead of one big load of it at one meal. Lysine is a vitamin and not really a medicine. It can help boost his immune system.

Do you have any fans running in you house? Could it be dust or allergies that are causing him to sneeze? Is it time to change your A/C air filter? Do you see anything coming out of his nose? Is it clear, green, white, or grey in color? How do Peyton's eyes look?

If it turns out he has an upper respiratory infection you're going to need to give him antibiotics.

I've given Furball Zyrtec for sneezing. I cut each pill into quarters and give her one quarter at a time. My vet said I could give it two times a day if needed. Furball gets bothered by pollen sometimes. I hope Peyton gets better soon.

Hi Julie:

I've just been through upper respiratory infections with two of my cats, and one has allergies, too. Here is a great website with info on things you can give your kitty to help:

Antihistamines for Cats

I give mine Zyrtec the most often. My vet said I could give up to 10 mg twice a day.

If Peyton doesn't improve, gets worse, or starts sounding like she's wheezing or mouth breathing, definitely have her checked out.

Sending healing vines!

Cyproheptadine is also an antihistamine. Be prepared for an increased appetite. Tiffany had a cold once and it went away without any treatment. I hope he doesn't need antibiotics.

Thank you all! He seems to be doing better tonight. He was actually playing with his favorite mouse a little while ago.
I didn't realize Lysine came in a powder form. I will have to order some and keep it on hand.
His sneezing was strange this morning. It was like a human sneeze. His mouth opened and then he went a-a-a-a-choo
I haven't seen any discharge and and his eyes look good. His eyes were tired looking earlier but not runny. I think he may already be getting better. Thank goodness!!! All my kitties and third vet visits lately are killing me but they are worth it :)

Sounds good. I remember when Tiffany was sneezing I called the vet and asked if they catch colds. He said yes and to see if it went away on its own and luckily it did. I hope that is the same for Peyton. How's the kitten doing?

Nugget the kitten is doing better but not perfect. I'm glad the second vet didn't give up on him. The first vet wanted to put him to sleep after he only produced two pellets in 5 days. I said "we can put a person on the moon but we can't get poop out of a cat?" I couldn't accept that I have never prayed so hard for poop!!! Lol
He goes back in a week for a checkup.
Thanks for asking Elise :)

Peyton has had a few little sneezes today but nothing like yesterday morning. Hopefully it's going away on it's own. (((HUGS))) to all a out furiends :YMHUG:

glad to hear Peyton's already doing better. i was just reading in today's paper about cats and colds - i think it was in the Parade Magazine if you get that.

nice to see you! we love hearing back from our OTJ kitties & beans!
