KT is doing SO much better on levimer than he was on Lantus. My big time diver/bouncer isn't diving and bouncing nearly as much. We still go thru EPI issues every couple of weeks but he's now been able to keep things going well without digestive enzymes and probiotics. He's not gained weight, still skin and bones but he feels a lot better. He eats VERY well now, very seldom does he feel bad enough to get hissy.

My sweet RockDoc is back to his too high numbers with hard drops and ugly bounces. I'm considering changing him to Levimer too - at least now he's responding to insulin. The higher dose I give him, the steeper the drop in the cycle. He drops low at night but is bouncing by morning too. He's not his usual playful self as often but he does still play in short spurts. His ssheet is pretty ugly right now....
Updates since last condo. We had a 'puppy mill' move into a rental house behind us - the original story was that these were 'rescued' dogs they were trying to 'fix'. After checking with the REAL local rescues, we discovered the real story. These dogs were skin and bones, their long hair was matted so tightly against their bodies that they couldn't move. There were little Yorkies, schnauzers, cairn terriers and Chinese Crested's-hairless and 'Powderpuff'. They were fed hard food and had no water at near 100 degrees. They had some that had been treated so terribly they were terrified of humans. The local rescues and SPCA said to get as many out of there as we could....first we caught 2 little females. One of them I spent 16 hours just slowly dematting her a few hairs at a time. Afterwards she spent 2 days STRETCHING and stretching over and over - she is SO cute, name is now 'Miley' as her underbite makes it look like she's smiling all the time. The second female wasn't as matted as she was one of their main 'breeding' females - her name is 'June'. 2 ladies that moved into another nearby house took the 2 females and love them to pieces. There were also 2 little boys the 'mill' couldn't 'tame' - a poodle mix and another Chinese Crested. They just opened the gate and had their kids run them off. One was so skinny you could see his bones everywhere. We began feeding them and slowly worked them toward our house but they were still terrified, wouldn't come TO us. The local rescue lent us 2 large wire cages, we caught them by putting food in crates, tying rope to door, sitting in the weeds until each came inside...pulled rope/door closed and one, 'Junior' was caught! We moved him into backyard, set up other cage while 'Johnny' was still running. By the time he arrived again, the cage looked the same, food in it...nothing scary, he didn't notice the rope. HE went in, we pulled rope/door closed and Johnny was caught! These are typical 'puppy mill' pups - 1.5-2 years old. They have severe emotional issues, poor Johnny is so emotional 'checked out' that all he did for the first 2 weeks was lay at the back of the crate with legs hidden under him, head down as tightly as he could get it to the floor and facing away. He shook terribly if you even came within 20 foot of him. After 5 weeks, he's at least sitting up and holding his head up. He's got scars all over his feet from sharp cage edges for a long time. He's improved 1000% but he's nowhere near 'adoptable' right now. Junior is a different story! HE decided that the world was now a better place, he wants attention and loving all the time altho' he is still very easily scared. He's now going outside to potty all the time, he runs and plays and gives me doggie kisses when I hold him. They're out of their crates and into a large wire kennel we built to give them more room. The local rescue is considering them in 'long term foster' right now while we try to rehabilitate them so their food cost is covered. They're both still 'intact' so will be neutered next month.
Whew! Sorry for the book but this has been one heck of a ride....we've dealt with 'dumped' animals - these are SO different. They'll let people hold them but there was no 'pleasure' in that touch - so sad. The 'puppy mill' has been evicted and moved out last week - at least we got 4 of them.
We've checked in here often but never have enough time to post - we really haven't checked out of here!!
