Georgia and Simon (GA)

I gave Simon a Pepcid right before bed and he actually ate his +8 overnight from the automatic feeder! This morning his AMPS are a little lower than the last 2 days which is nice. He is on the 8th day of zymox ear drops. When I tried to give him his Pepcid this morning in the pill pocket, he refused to eat it. He loves pill pockets -- at least until today. It was a struggle to get him to take the pill, but finally he did. Tonight, I am going to try rolling the pill pocket in parmesan cheese since he loves it. I really think the zymox is causing his taste buds to be a little different. He only wants to eat fish flavored food and he always loved turkey and chicken. Very strange! Has anyone else had something similar to happen when they give certain meds?

Cleo is doing well today after her fluids last night. I am not going to be able to give fluids today because my DH is out of town for one night. Last night was a little harder and I don't think I can do it by myself just yet. I am hoping that it will be ok to skip one day. What do y'all think?

Stay cool today!!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

So nice to hear Simon ate his snack and took his pill. I think alot of pills just upset their tummys but I never heard of any changing their taste buds. Interesting.

I think skipping a day of fluids if you can't give them, shouldn't harm Cleo. I'm sure experts will weigh in though but I believe you just have to do the best you can, when you can.

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Morning Georgia

Another similarity :-D Simon usually takes his Tapazole on his own, wrapped in a piece of pill pocket, but
occasionally (like this am) I have to "assist". If he just licks it a few times without picking it up, I pop it into his
mouth and gently hold his jaws, just tight enough so he can't open enough to spit out, but loose enough so he can
chew/swallow. (I don't tilt his head back). I follow this with a blob of butter on my fingertip, then his food.

Sorry, no experience with subQ (touching wood here ;-) ) but as Iorwen said, I can't see missing a day when Cleo seems fine would be
that significant...

You're doing great, have a good day!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Hi Georgia. I have no experience with the taste buds. Makes sense though. Good thing he is eating though - even if it is a fish flavour.
I would still bring Cleo up on the subq station tonight and reward her with treats and have her stay there. Get her used to it being a good thing.

Hugs to you and your gang.

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Glad to hear Simon ate his snack! I wouldn't be surprised if the meds are messing with his taste buds a bit...much stranger things have happened. Every once in a while, my Mario can be finicky about his pill pockets, too. When he does that, I put his BP meds in a little bit of Trixie's food, which he loves but really isn't supposed to eat. Pill and food are both gone in an instant. I think they just want to make sure we are always on our toes  !

Karrie's idea of taking Cleo up to the subQ station tonight is a great one...start building that consistency. It's great that the fluids are making her feel good!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Good to hear Simon is eating something! I have to force Tarragon to take pills, even in a pill pocket.

I don't think missing a day of fluids would hurt, but I don't have any experience with it.

Hope you have a great day!

Has anyone else had something similar to happen when they give certain meds?

It happens to humans, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to cats also

Hope Simon feels better soon.

I dont think missing a day would mess Cleo up.

Have a wonderful day.

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Morning!! I agree with what the others have said. I don't think missing one day will harm Cleo. I liked Karrie's idea of still bringing her to the station, rewarding her for being there: all positive reinforcement. I am glad too that Simon is eating better too. Sorry that he decided that today a pill pocket wasn't happening. I hope it was just a one day thing... Right Simon?

have a great day guys!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Hoping Simon feels better and appetite improves. How many more days with the drops? Good luck with whatever you decide with the squids. Glad they are helping Cleo.

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

Hi guys .. I'm glad to hear simon ate his overnight snack plus he is a little lower this morning .. I know it's hard seeing our kitties up a little higher then normal, but it's probably good to know his ear's are doing better? Hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187

it's good for bean and kitty to get into a routine.....if i were you i would warm up fluids, etc....so she gets used to hearing you go thru the set up and all....and if you get the courage to actually do the fluids....even better! no idea how hot it is where you are....if you can give fluids it would be a bonus!....

Simon's amps is a good one!!!

yeah with meds depending on the side effects they can get off their reg food and picky too....hope he goes back to normal!

Re: 7/19 Georgia's Simon AMPS 187 PMPS 152

Work has been terrible today. I didn't get a chance to come home and see how the kitties were doing at lunch and then I was late getting home. Sorry I haven't been able to visit condos.

Bruce, I'll have to try your trick with the pill pockets and just lightly holding his mouth so he can't spit the pill back out.

Karrie, I am going to definitely put Cleo up on the subq table to get her used to it and give her treats tonight. Claudia, I am too chicken to even try doing it myself tonight. When I came home tonight, after feeding both cats, Cleo starting running around and jumping on Simon. I guess she is feeling ok.

Ann, I have 6 more days of pills to give Simon. Way too long of a time! I can't wait for it to be over. Simon is still scratching his ears a little but only once or twice a day instead of all the time.

Have a good evening and try to stay cool in this horrible heat.
