Good morning LL,

All 50s present. Last night I left her with "the general population" Aka Gordo. (explanation below)

Bouncing from the greens she went to last night. Hope it clears soon!

Now...

My vet and I talked about the best way to switch Gordo over to canned food. She gave me Dr. Lisa's website. How funny.

He is from this day on on a diet. I'm following Dr. Lisa's advise.

1) stop free feeding. Schedule twice a day feeding times with dry-food first

2) switch to canned food.

He ate EVO at 8 pm (1.2 oz he ate most of it). I gave him some canned food sprinkled with chicken dust about 30 minutes ago (he ate most of it). He is looking at me with those pupil-dilated-puss-with-boots kind of eyes. I'm going to have a rough couple of days/weeks. ohmygod_smile but I wont give in or give up!!

If at any point I tell you all that I am having cat for dinner, please stop me. :lol: :lol:

This morning I had a VERY hungry cat in my house. He started meowing for food around 6 am :shock:

Do you have a baby scale or a scale that weighs to the ounce? This is a must for monitoring weight loss.

I have to put Henry on a controlled diet also. Life is getting in the way and I have to prioritize this. Its a lot of mental energy to weigh out food, weigh remainder, keep weekly tabs on him and calculate how much to increase or decrease the next weeks feeding. I'm not a good mom putting this off. Maverick got to 20 pounds and got diabetes because I was so scared of him going off food again. I failed him there so I can't fail Henry. He showed his very first interest in wet food this week - two licks of ocean whitefish. So I'm going to get more of this - it was our only can. I'm going to try parmesan cheese too. He has no interest in tuna juice, freeze dried chicken or meat baby food. So we can diet our boys together.

I would set up a spreadsheet. Do you know how many calories he's eating now and how much to cut back? Dr. Lisa's instructions are pretty amazing.

I dont but I'm going to buy one today.

I'll send you the spreadsheet I'll use as soon as I can.

He is 17 pounds, and he should be around 13...so I am shooting for 195 calories per day.

Good luck clearing the bounce, Enana. And lol about 6am. I mean, no laughing. They sure can be opinionated about when mealtime should be! A while ago, Star kept begging for it (meowing, sniffing our ears, pawing at the doors and bed) earlier and earlier. DH gave in earlier and earlier. So she knew it worked. When she was getting "breakfast" at 4am(!), I took over the feeding job. Someone has to keep that time from inching earlier and earlier!

Keep saying, "I am strong", "I will not give in". Gordo will eventually realize you are stronger than he is. I had to do the same thing with Cleo and it only took her about a week to stop asking for the dry kibble.

Enana has come down nicely tonight.

Poor Gordo. Soooo hungry. Oh those big eyes get me every time. Stay strong!

I'm a terrible sucker for those big round eyes, and they all know it. More power to ya!!

Dr. Lisa has an article on converting to wet food. This has to be done smartly to avoid drastic weight loss. A wet food diet may not have enough calories to maintain Gordo's weight either. Maverick needed supplemental assist feeding by syringe when he got his diabetes diagnosis. We weren't able to try many of the things as the switch had to happen right away. I couldn't keep his weight loss slow and had to bring him in often for blood work to check his liver. Some cats will be impossible to switch. Remember also a cat isn't a child...."if they are hungry they will eat". Nope. They are cats. Doesn't work that way.

Also remember when doing controlled weight loss with a cat.... give the liver a break. A week of maintenance thrown in.

Karrie, that's the article that I am following also. He is not diabetic or has any other health issue. I'm giving him enough calories for him to loose 1-2 % weight per week.


Went to see Harry Potter. I enjoyed it. :-D
