We only went away to places where we could take Darcy -- or our other cats sometimes, too -- just got back from a trip to the mountains last week and we took our cat, Ginger, and two foster kittens with us... not that I am recommending kittens!! They had a blast though.
We went to Florida once (visiting with family who have dogs) and got an Air B&B and brought our cat Julius with us. The owner of that place was a pretty famous veterinarian who has written a book.
I wouldn't trust anybody to take care of Max either! I know a lot of our camping people here (RVers, take their cats along with them.)
when I do have to alter plans because of Max, I feel like some people don’t understand why I’m so involved with my cat. They just don’t understand the work it takes to care for a pet that you love.
Oh, they DO NOT understand! First you have the people who just don't understand that kind of devotion to a pet (especially a CAT! what? it's just a cat, right?)

Then other people, even if they have cats and love them, just don't have any clue what it's like to manage feline diabetes.... let alone a cat as complicated as Max. This is just something we all have to live with. Family, in particular, can be the worst, since they think they have the right to comment on your lifestyle!

I know this. You don't see me commenting on my family's dogs, do you? Or horses? No.
Big hugs to you. Its just "one of those days."
