Good morning!

Well, food transtition is going pretty well. Giving kitties 1/2 can wet food and 1/4 c Orijen dry. I was waiting for Bob's bounce to be over to see how it might be affecting his BG before I made any more changes. I can't quite tell what's going on. I'm going home to check him at lunch today because he didn't eat much before I left. I gave him Evanger's Chickin Lickin which is also expensive (1.79/can) but it's cheaper than the Fromm (2.29/can), but he did not seem as interested. He ate maybe a little less than 1/4 of a can and I didn't see him eat any dry. It must be the fish he likes. The From has "ocean fish" as the 3rd or 4th ingredient in all their flavors. REally hoping I can trick him into eating some FF so I don't have to file for bankruptcy just to support my diabetic cat's discriminating culinary preferences. ohmygod_smile

Thinking of Jamie and Jupiter and praying for a successful surgery.

Hope everyone has a great day! cat_pet_icon

Eat yer fuds, Bob! It's a challenge to get them to eat the right food, just like with people.  Happy Fursday, Dara!

Morning Dara and Bob! ~O) :-D

Maybe try the Merrick Surf N Turf? It's only $1.41 a can on PetFoodDirect. Maybe he'll like the fish in it! I've heard Merrick has changed some of their formulas recently though. Don't know if all of them have changed but might be worth looking into. :-D

This made me laugh. Silly kitties think money grows on trees!

Good luck with Bob's food transition!
Enjoy your day!

Fancy Feast Classics have several fish flavors although, I wouldn't advise giving a boy cat a diet that's totally fish. (Their "plumbing" was not well thought out and males are more prone to developing crystals.) Their FF Classic Chicken also contains some fish. I think you have options.

Also, you may want to consider that using the largest size cans possible reduces the cost. For example the 15oz can's of Wellness cost the same or less per ounce than a 3oz can of Fancy Feast.

Oooh, that's right, I forgot about the Wellness Turkey & Salmon. Nikki really liked that one and Petsmart had it for $1.89 for a 5.5 oz can. My Petsmart doesn't have the huge cans but I bet you can find out online where they are sold.

Hi everyone - thanks for the info! I usually check the board during work but was nuts today! I will definitely take a look at all the suggestions!

Hi Sienne - I was trying to avoid giving them seafood all of the time because of the mercury issue, but do you think giving him something like the From Duck & Chicken (fish is the 3rd or 4th ingredient I think) is ok for his plumbing? As long as it's not all seafood ingredients? I think the fish in it is why he eats it. The company told me the carb content was 6%. Here are the numbers. The 2nd set is dry matter basis. Is this ok for diabetics?
Protein 8.80 42.93
Fat 3.20 15.61
Fiber 1.35 6.59
Moisture 79.50
Ash 1.38 6.73
Carbohydrates 6.32 30.83
Omega 6 Fatty Acids 1.40 6.83
Omega 3 Fatty Acids 0.19 0.93
Taurine 0.11

We had some luck in transitioning Zener to wet food by mixing foods together and gradually adding more of the one we wanted him to eat. The real life saver was sprinking Forti Flora on the food. It is a probiotic but also adds flavor similar to dry kibble flavor. We still use it to encourage Zener's appy.

I was going to buy some of the FortiFlora until Bob surprised me and actually ate some wet food. This is how goofy he is. I just gave him some Fromm Salmon & Tuna Pate and he would not touch it - went back to his bed to lie down. So I gave him some Lotus Chicken & Veggie Pate and he ate it! I guess it just really depends on the flavor. I just can't get him to eat a large amount at one time. Then I worry the other kitties will get his food. I really want something to work out well so I don't have to lock up any cats - they don't do well that way....

Hi you two

wow...I think that Bob's SS is starting to take a turn. you?

he had a good day today...don't you think?

how is that coconut oil working out? is it "working out"....get it?

sorry about your car problems.....if it isn't one thing....

keep the good work up Dara!

Hi Dara,

Glad Bob is trying a few new foods for you. It is so frustrating trying to get them to eat what they should. My Cleo ate the FF (various flavors) with no problem. Perfect for FD. Now that she has early CKD, FF is not good for her, so I am trying these other foods with limited success. But, the Forti Flora has really helped!! I sprinkle a little on top, and all my kitties will eat a good portion of whatever food it is!

I ordered mine (30 packets) from Amazon. I don't use a whole packet at once. I just fold the top over to store it through the day.

Good luck :-D
