Re: 7/17 Johnny AMPS 149 - OTJ Trial - 26 hrs+ since last shot

it happens, lots of cats see blue during their trial. Small meals frequently.

If he's not down much at +3, then try +4. Lucy used to take 4 hours to bring herself down. Post back here and folks will keep an eye on you.

Re: 7/17 Johnny AMPS 149 - OTJ Trial - 26 hrs+ since last shot

He was 133 at +3, so down! Not a big drop, but down.

I also found out that Johnny ate a couple times within the couple hours before testing. Brian said he was meowing and all the overnight food was gone, so he fed him around 6:30. Just an FYI to know that the 149 was likely a little affected by food.

Thanks, Libby. We'll get a +4 too.

Re: 7/17 Johnny AMPS 149 - OTJ Trial - 3hrs(133) 4hrs(107)

107 at +4. Thanks for the tip to test again, Libby. I can't believe the difference. Now, we just hang tight and test PMPS next, right? I'm heading out to rollerblade and meet a friend, so I'll check in later. Hooray for Johnny's pancreas today!

Re: 7/17 Johnny AMPS 149 - OTJ Trial - 3hrs(133) 4hrs(107)

hope you're having fun roller-blading!

good to see johnny bringing himself down.
do me a favor, please make a notation in the "remarks" section about him being fed prior to the 149 this morning.

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

Wow, it was a hot day for rollerblading!! Good workout, but I could do without the heat headache I acquired. I was beet red. Trying to rehydrate now.

Johnny's numbers today:
AMPS 149 (though he had eaten prior)
+3 (133)
+4 (107)
+8.5 (112)
PMPS 182 - ate small meal two hours prior

Is this what we're expecting??

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

Not really what we're expecting. It may be a bit of a spike from the food 2 hours prior. You may not want to feed so close to PS. Get another test after Johnny has his dinner (3 - 4 hrs) unless Libby or Jill suggests something different.

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

hey, tell johnny i said to come down from there! lol!

we might just be seeing a bounce here from yesterday's 33. go ahead and test 4 hours after his last meal. let's see where he's at. when you get a chance, will you please mark meal times on your spreadsheet with an asterisk?

"if" it looks like a little bit of insulin is needed, do you think you can measure anything less than 0.1 unit?

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

We can definitely try to measure out less than 0.1. And I hadn't thought of a bounce, I guess that's possible.

I'm wondering about food...up until this point, we've always had a little out at all times, so he could bring himself up if he was low. We don't have regular mealtimes per se, except that the big meals are after AMPS and PMPS typically. We can make sure he doesn't eat until +3 or +4 tonight, but should we stop leaving some food out overnight and always having it available? I thought I had heard not to feed within two hours of testing. I guess we'll need to do some adjusting around here, but not sure where to start. I want to make sure we are getting non-food-affected numbers for Johnny...

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

I generally don't think free feeding is a problem. I would give a little more space between Johnny's last snack and pre-shot -- maybe 3 - 4 hrs.

don't worry about adjusting his food schedule at this point. if it doesn't stress him out, pull up his food until 4 hours after he ate tonight to get a "clean" number. if he wants to eat, try it tomorrow.

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 - OTJ Trial

+3 from PM test is 95! No food for three hours. I gave him a tsp of FF. He is used to getting a little something after each test. Mama gave in.

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 +3 (95!) - OTJ Trial

wow Johnny, that's quite a pancreas you have there.

No problem feeding now, we were mostly looking to see if his pancreas is working. Looks like it's sputtering, at least. Impressive!

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 +3 (95!) - OTJ Trial

LOL Libby at the pancreas compliment! Johnny says thanks.

So, should we get a +4 or would it just be "one for the chart?" I have to admit I'm curious, but if it's not necessary, I'm cool. ;-)

I really think Johnny's dx was a result of his pancreas saying "ENOUGH OF THE FREE-RANGE CAT CHOW EATING!" Diet change has done so much for Johnny and for all of our kitties. If only I could start eating only FF. lol

Re: 7/17 Johnny PMPS 182 +3 (95!) - OTJ Trial

81 @ +4. Pancreas is definitely working. Johnny just had a nice meal and is tucking himself in for the night.
