Yesterday...

2nd week of overnight work and again, it looks like Chino might break a bounce during the day, when I'm supposed to be sleeping. Sleep disruption never used to affect me this way. Between the missed alarms, sound/temperature sensitivity, and now allodynia, I am not amused. At least I don't have to be in the office at 1 AM anymore.

Yesterday, I started the last pen of the first box. In 2.5 to 3 months, when I run out of Lantus, I'm going to ask the vet to switch to Levemir. I hope it will help to flatten out the bounces, though if it pushes his nadir to the end of the cycle, that might be a problem. +8 is the only time I can test overnight (between doses of medication), unless I skip my meds and half a night of sleep.

The majority of the time I was able to sleep between Doodles PM+8 and AMPS on Levemir. Of course there were times when I couldn't and also times when I thought I could and woke up to a AMPS of 26:eek: Of course Doodles is not a good example;)

Hope you can figure out how to get more sleep and your work schedule calms down soon too.

Wow. His BG dropped ~130 mg/dL over the past 2 hours. He could be around 100 in another 2 hours. Of course, my work begins in 1.5 hours, so juggling critical timed work with BG monitoring/management isn't going to be easy... but at least I'm not losing sleep over it.

If you change to Lev, which I think would be a good idea, you can always change preshot times. Neko was a late nadir Lev kitty, and I could almost always sleep from +3 bedtime to at least +7, and most often +9. I occasionally woke up to a surprise, though never below 40. Note that Neko and Doodles had IAA which can delay things.

I currently time his insulin around my sleep/work schedule. I start work at 8, so I wake up 15 minutes before 7 and aim to give the shot as close to 7 as possible. Shooting at 7 PM allows me to get a +2 and a +4 before going to bed at 11, which is necessary since I'm supposed to take 2 doses of medication at night, 4 hours apart. Since it takes about 4-5 hours to wear off, I have to time my meds around my work schedule, and have to time Chino's meds around my sleep schedule.

PMPS = 359 (3rd meal LC 5%)
[12.25 units Lantus]
+2 = 361
+4 = 226 (4th meal LC 5%)
+5 = 154 (2 tsp MC 12%, both meat and gravy)

If the planned work tonight is on schedule, I'll be busy at +5.75 but will aim to check again around +6 and give HC if necessary.

A +2 and a +4 may not be the right time for testing on Lev. If Neko was going up at preshot time, I often didn't test again until +5 or later. You may be able to get away with a +2 and +6, or not. I seldom got a +2 unless she was low and going down at preshot time. Lev kitties are often flatter and more predictable. I tested less and more strategically with Neko on Lev.

We're running 20-30 minutes behind so I was able to sneak away and get a +6.

+6 = 111 (same)

Since that did slow him down, I gave more of the same (meat and gravy together). There's plenty of gravy left in case I need to give it at +7.

+9.5 = 79! :) I gave him a piece of freeze-dried turkey liver and I'm going to try to catch a little sleep before it's time for the next dose. I hope he gets at least a few hours of blue before the bounce starts.
