Re: 7/16 Sabrina AMPS 342 ???Refuses Food??? HELP

I would get a ketone test A.S.A.P. I would put the litter box in the middle of the room where I could see it, and I would watch until she goes. If you think she will run when you approach her as she pees, then I would put some plastic wrap on top of the litter in the box and push some small indentations into the top so that hopefully you will get a small pool of pee to test.

Re: 7/16 Sabrina AMPS 342 ???Refuses Food??? HELP

Hi, poor Sabrina! I'm new & can't help you on dosing, but regarding eating:

Have you tried tuna water (making sure it's just water only that the tuna's been in, no 'broth that contains onion or veggies) Also, do you have any chicken breast that you could cook in a little water only to make it mushy & brothy? Lastly, do you have any freeze-dried chicken treats or LC treats she likes? Will she eat a small amount of these?

Has she been previously diagnosed with pancreatitis?

I have a cat with a sensitivity to eggs - makes him vomit & have diarrhea, which lasts about 24 hours. I don't know how often you've fed that particular food that made Sabrina throw up, could it be she has a sensitivity?

These are my initial suggestions. I know more experienced members will come along shortly with more information for you. I hope Sabrina's feeling better soon!

Re: 7/16 Sabrina AMPS 342 ???Refuses Food??? HELP

Hi Cindy--

Looks like the last few pink, red & yellow cycles are probably Sabrina bouncing from that 81 yesterday morning. At last glance, I see she was 224 at today's AM+10, so perhaps she's clearing the bounce....

Has she eaten anything else?

There's a list here on FDMB somewhere about getting a kitty to eat. I'm gonna go find it, and then will post it for you....

Hi Cindy - BIG HUG! Our babies not eating is AWFUL for us...

Freeze dried chicken crumbed to dust on top?

Baby food?

Kat's post with the list will have lots of stuff...keep trying even when the 'YUCK-U Poisonin' ME?' pile grows...

HUGS AGAIN,

Here ya go, Cindy--

Cheryl & Winnie: Enticing a Cat to Eat

Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :

forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
parmesean cheese
smashed crumbles of dry food
bonito/tuna flakes (Can be found at Asian markets or sometimes in the Asian food section of a large grocery store.)
halo chicken treats (freeze dried chicken) -- crumble into dust over food -- my Wolfie loves this stuff.
pour a little water from tuna in water over food (I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats and it shouldn't contain soy -- check labels)
powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:

trader joe tuna for cats
baby food -- beechnut or Gerber Stage 2 -- you want a baby food that is only a protein + broth (although the Gerber contains cornstarch). It should have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels.
kentucky fried chicken
deli turkey /chicken
plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
chicken broth -- low sodium

If enticements don't work, you should consider:
-assist feeding (syringe or make little meatballs and place in mouth)
-and/or talking to your vet about appetite stimulents ( mirtazapine or cyproheptidine)

Re: 7/16 Sabrina AMPS 342, PMPS 338 ???Refuses Food??? HELP

First, a day not eating is not critical. So, breathe!

Here's at least my spin on what may be going on. Your PMPS on Sunday was 143 and by +3, Sabrina was a 119. Given where she was at +11, I suspect that Sabrina dropped pretty low overnight. (With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, getting a +4 may have told you that you needed more tests.) You can see the bounce by PMPS on Monday. The upward spike may be one reason that Sabrina was feeling pretty punk -- her numbers rose almost 300 points within the cycle.

Does Sabrina typically eat tuna or other fish flavor foods? Fish is a common allergy for cats. Gabby doesn't do well with beef and will vomit if she eats beef cat food. Likewise, if the tuna and egg was a new food for Sabrina, it may not be one you want to repeat.

I would try giving her 1/4 of a 10mg tablet of Pepsid AC to see if it settles her stomach. I'd also see if she'll eat baby food (Gerber or Beechnut Stage 2 -- only meat and broth, no veggies). The baby food is easy on the stomach. Also, if this is pancreatitis, it will be OK to give Pepsid.

I think Suzanne (Tigger's bean) asked some good questions: does Sabrina have a history of pancreatitis (I didn't see it mentioned on her Profile) or sensitivity to foods.
