We didn't expect a 33 at +4 this a.m. Thank goodness Brian happened to test. He's giving him some LC to bump him up.

I know we expected some 40s, but 33 seems REALLY low. Is this Johnny saying no more or just a sign we're getting closer to getting him off the insulin?

Re: 7/16 Johnny AMPS 84 +3 (33!) Giving LC to bump #s

I suspect you'll be sub-micro-dosing very soon

Re: 7/16 Johnny AMPS 84 +3 (33!) Giving LC to bump #s

Johnny is on a mission to be sure! One paw closer to that exit for OTJ soon?

Re: 7/16 Johnny AMPS 84 +3 (33!) Giving LC to bump #s

nice catch! :-D
has brian retested yet? want to make sure the lc bumped johnny up.

Re: 7/16 Johnny AMPS 84 +3 (33!) Giving LC to bump #s

update pretty please?

Hoping Johnny made his way back up a bit.

Re: 7/16 Johnny AMPS 84 +3 (33!) Giving LC to bump #s

Sorry to leave you hanging, I had a lunch meeting and then a reg meeting!

I realized I was wrong in my headline...the 33 was at +4. I'll correct that.

Brian's encouraging LC and he's been eating plenty. He's acting fine, too.

33 @ +4
46 @ +4.5
44 @ +5.5
44 @ + 6.25

it's time to take the training wheels off to see if he can manage on his own!!!
how do you feel about starting an OTJ trial? johnny's numbers aren't perfect, but he's newly diagnosed and with the drops he's getting off of 0.1u of insulin... well, it's just time to see what he can do!

here's libby's trial instructions:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Wow, Jill! The secret instructions! I'd love to see if this boy is ready to ride solo.

I talked to Brian and he said maybe we should see what his number is tonight and give him one last dose since he doesn't seem to be dropping too low at night. Like, if he's above 90, give the shot. And start the trial tomorrow. What do you think? nailbite_smile

I can't believe he's ready to do this!

Thanks for the support, everyone. Sending you all healing green vibes.

So...no testing tonight?? This will be strange, but nice. :) We'll keep everyone updated.

Johnny and the gang enjoyed a celebratory Fish & Shrimp meal catered by Fancy Feast. Their favorite!

Can't wait to see how he does. We understand that he's not officially OTJ, but are excited about where he is now! Thanks for the help in getting here.

Janice,
hide the meter right now (just remember where you hide it)

Good luck to all of you, this is certainly wonderful news!
