? 7/15 - Mačka was high and now LOW AMPS 533, +2 404, +5 582, PMPS 92

Macka is back from the vet.
AM +5 was a sad 582.

Here’s what they did:
- drew blood to get the pancreas levels (results tomorrow)
- stool sample
- gave a Cerenia shot
- gave fluids
- tested Ketones in blood serum = NEG
- fed him 1/2 can of Natural Balance, and he liked it (I checked and it’s a 10% carb food, yuck). Vet was wondering if Macka was sick of Fancy Feast? I don’t think so, I think he’s just sick.

They gave him to go:
- the appetite stimulant ointment
- Metronidazole for the belly (I really don’t understand why, if he has pancreatitis, it will not help)
- said that the other anti nausea that is not cerenia is not as good

Basically they don’t know yet what he has. Maybe pancreatitis, maybe another condition? Vet ( a new one) asked me to increase dose to 1.75 again. I will do it tomorrow morning, hoping that he has active cycles during the day this time. Tomorrow morning will be the 7th cycle since I decreased to 1.5.
I will do my best to micro dose and understand my syringes, because even with the sticky note I don't see the difference between 1.5 and 1.75. It really is a matter of a micron.

I am not feeding him until shot time to see if he gets a little hungry in the meantime.

On a positive note, no ketones despite his recent lack of appetite ánd you found a food that he enjoys!
 
I agree with Julie, magnifiers are very important. Some people use crafting magnifiers that fit on you head and also have a light. It gives you hands free. I just used a cheap hand held one.

I hope the bloodwork provides answers. :bighug: Metronidazole has anti inflammatory properties, as well as some antibiotic. It is often given for diarrhea. It also tastes awful, hope you have a way to disguise it.

I agree with the vet on the increase but not on ondansetron. It is a life saver for many kitties. I had to use both with Neko.
 
Did you retest that 92? If a number seems out of the expected, it can be good to test again.

Double dang, if it has been less than 15 minutes since food, test again now.

Not sure if Wendy agrees, but since you are on an AT meter, 92 is in the lower range, and now lower, probably a dose of caution would be better.

Don’t panic, Penelope. There are people to help and if Wendy has to go I will find someone to stay with you.
 
med carb for sure, high carb, not really, i made a mistake with friskies, but the urinary C/D Hills should be high, i'm too much panicking can you check for me .

Ok, I would not give him anything else and check 20-30 minutes after last food. He probably would have been fine with just low carb or maybe medium. He was still above 68 and rising, so you are fine. He has not had insulin since this morning, right, so you don’t need to worry, if anything he should be coming up soon.

Just wait a bit and check him and let us know.
 
So we have a couple things to figure out here.

With that low number, I would think the increase suggested by vet for tomorrow should be rethought. We will need to get a more knowledgeable person to answer that. I can give you my opinion on what I would do, but I don’t want someone telling me I am giving the wrong advice.

If you were skipping tonight, you should not need to monitor much longer, he should come up and will likely bounce with that lower number.

I guess it depends how far past shot time it is as far as giving anything tonight if he came up enough to shoot. If you did, reduction makes sense with that low number.

I don't have anything going on tomorrow morning, so I could shoot in 2 hours. However, that drop from today's 500s scared me a LOT. Should I reduce the dose?
What happened, @Wendy&Neko do you think? Is it because I did not feed him at all today from noon to 6:30PM ? The only real difference from other days is that:
- he went to the vet and had fluids (however, I also gave him some 3 days in a row last week)
- he had 1/2 can of 10% carb food at noon, instead of the usual FF (1-2%)

What happened is you gave him high carb food, please don’t give anymore unless he drops low.

As for why he is lower, maybe something the vet did really helped him. Cats in pain or with inflammation can have elevated numbers. The Cerenia dose by injection could have been more than what you have been giving.

Let’s test again in 1/2 hour, and see how much he is up. Yes on the reduced dose because you are following SLGS which says to reduce below 90. 1.25 units would be the new dose.
