Good Morning, Everyone.

It's Bastille Day and the Tour de France is really getting exciting. Rusty and I are watching the first day in the Pyrenees as I type.
Rusty is bouncing a bit from his low green last night. He ate all of his nighttime food and just finished his second sitting of breakfast. We had our combing. The weather is very warm and the LagoonMeister is hoping to get back into the surf soon. This afternoon I have to go to Plattsburgh to get him some fuds.

Our paddle yesterday was great. The trails on the carries were not as muddy as we expected and the waters were mostly calm on the ponds (almost glass-like) and quite choppy on the St. Regis lakes, which we paddled at the end of the day. Loons were plentiful, all of them with a chick or two (the chicks ride on their parent's backs, slide off into the water, and then back on to rest. Loon parents are very attentive, the males and females share in the care of the chicks.

Yesterday, when we got home, I saw mama deer and her two fawns behind our barn. I suspected that she had two because she always went into the yard next door after checking on the fawn she had stashed in our grass. Now that the fawns are bigger, they are with their mama all the time.

Wishing you all a good day and continuing to send our condolences to Jamie on the loss of Jupiter. What a brave kitty he was!

I hope Rusty slides back down to the lagoon today. I'm glad you enjoyed your paddle. It sounds like it was nice.

What a great day! Love the loons. Early morning calls on a quiet lake in northern Wisconsin, a most welcome memory.

Time for some Lagoon duty Mr. Meister. Go for it.

Rusty had a blue rest day today. It's still hot and humid here. Poor guy in his thick fur coat. He had pretty good appetite, however, and enjoyed his naps. This evening his dinner is waiting for him on the couch (he's asleep next to it). I'm headed down there with my iPad to keep him company and watch some of the All-Star Game.

When I went out to buy cat food this afternoon there were 3 fawns in our driveway and no sign of the mother(s). They must have left them to take an afternoon nap! But they surely "told" them not to stray, because the babies hopped over to the lawn and just munched away on the clover.

Tomorrow I will be absent from the board. We have a wonderful opportunity to visit Great Camp Santanoni (now owned by NY State). I have been there in the winter, on skis, but this visit will be special: a horse team pulling a wagon will take our canoes from the gatehouse 5 miles to Newcomb Lake, where we will be able to paddle, visit the camp buildings, and just enjoy the atmosphere of this amazing complex. A second horse & wagon will carry us (or we can walk some or all of the way). They think we will be back at our cars about 4 P.M. I hope this is so, because although not very far as the crow flies, Camp Santanoni is one of those places (at the southern end of the High Peaks) that "you can't get there from here". It will be a 2-hour drive each way. Rusty may have a late PMPS! He'll have plenty of food, so I hope he'll eat it and not "save" it!

Off to watch the game and visit some condos on my iPad,

Wow? 3 fawns?? Wonder if mama deer had triplets??

Come on now Rusty....head on down to the lagoon soon and go for a swim! It'll help cool you off!!

Rusty's blue bounces always impress me. A pretty good recovery day for him.

Your trip yesterday sounds really special. I love the sound of the loons - we don't seem them much here on the coast, except on our $1 coins. ;) Enjoy tomorrow - having a horse pulling the canoes around sounds really special.

i've seen some of the baby deer get adopted by other mothers....
we have mountain lions/cougars which eat deer ( and other victims) and then the deer cross the busy roads
and get hit.

Glad Rusty got some rest and headed back down to his spot....

I see Rusty took the graveyard shift at the lagoon. Sorry Cinco is still slacking. I don't know what I have to do to get that boy to go back to work!

Have a great time tomorrow. Sending safe surfing vines for Rusty.
