7/14 Peyton Hairball Remedy???

Hi Julie. I've used Vet's Best Hairball Relief in the past which I bought from Amazon. It does not contain sugar and the only questionable ingredient I see is papaya extract. He likes these treats. I stopped using it because of that ingredient but he is having issues as well so I just gave him one. Sometimes adding baby food squash or pumpkin helps too.
 
My vet has spoken highly of Capilex, but it is pricey and can only be purchased through a vet. Apparently it works differently, by breaking down the hairball and the food that is caught in it, rather than lubing everything. I'm interested in trying it a some point with my hairballers...I want to see if I can get a sample, though, before I commit since it is expensive.
 
Another thing that I have read lately is that egg yolk will emulsify the fats that binds the hair into a hairball. Natural, nutritious and inexpensive!
 
I looked up Capilex and it contains malidextrin which it said could raise BG. Any, did your vet say you could give it to Trixie?
 
I forgot about that....Trixie doesn't do hairballs, but some of my civvies do, so she wouldn't be getting it. I need to get hold of a sample first, though. It comes in treat form, and my guys are weirdly suspicious of most treats so I'm not sure if they'll go for it.
 
Thank you all very much! I will look into each of them. Now that Peyton is feeling better not only is he grooming himself more but his friends too. The hairball he had the other day was the biggest I've ever seen. I thought after that he wouldn't want to eat for a while but it didn't slow him down. He went ahead and ate his supper anyway :)
