Looks like he's going back to the blues... I will be able to test him one more time tonight before bed. Running low on strips. Here's my question, even though he's been on the dose of 2.5u for only 48 hours, do you think I should lower it tomorrow if he's around the same numbers tomorrow morning? I wont be able to watch him tomorrow as I'm going to be at work. He's going to be locked up in my moms bedroom so no wandering off for him!

Anways, let me know your thoughts.

I'm going to apologize up front but I'm also going to be blunt. You cannot run out of strips. It's dangerous. With your PMPS, Jake could easily drop into green numbers and if he drops low, how will you know that? How will you know what and when to feed? How will you know if it's safe for you to go to sleep? Hypoglycemia can kill your cat and can do it quickly and in a gruesome way. Read the sticky on the symptoms of hypo. If there is a Walmart near you and you do not use a Relion meter, get one. The strips are the least expensive available. Yes, strips are expensive. So is taking your cat to the ER. If you do not have a Walmart nearby, use your current meter and get your strips on line. They are much less expensive to buy on Ebay, Amazon, Hocks, etc.

The better regulated Jake gets, the more you need strips. Going down a dose ladder as a cat's numbers are improving means a lot of testing. The entire point of home testing is to help your cat get better regulated but more importantly, to keep him safe.

There's no way to predict or make recommendations about tomorrow. Get a test at around PM +11.5 or +11.75 and post. Hopefully, someone can make a suggestion then. It was noted last night that dose hopping is not going to even out Jake's numbers but if it's a matter of safely, we can deal with it in the morning.
 
Running out of strips sucks.
But what sucks more is that I didn't have the benefit of using a back up meter such as the Relion meter (not available in Canada) to which strips are so inexpensive it makes me cringe at the thought of how much we spent on strips with the One Touch.

So even thou they were expensive, I never wanted to be out of them, came close to it and its nerve wrecking. nailbite_smile

So I'm going to agree with Sienne, I looked back to yesterday, and she mentioned the same thing about dose. You may want to hold off and wait till your strips come in, get a curve in there and see how the numbers go.

Do what you can with what you've got left. But definitely do at least one check in tonight.
Two if you can spare the extra strip.
 
OK I went out and bout it, nine dollars was a good deal and they even had a pack of 20 strips for 9 dollars. That's all I could afford until Saturday! I checked his BG at +10 and it was at 270. Tonight's dinner was chicken liver, chicken hearts and chicken breast all par cooked and mixed together He also got two vitamins by Standard Process.

He has a tenancy to get very picky on hot days and will literally refuse any type of kitty food that doesn't have some sort of extra stuff in it like apples, broccoli etc. I tend to give him Weruva grain free foods, or Before Grain 95% quail and other types of canned food. The little bugger also gets bored with his dinner and will flat out refuse to eat anything until I get something new on his plate. The little shiznit even turns his nose up at fresh wild caught Alaskan salmon!! Then again, he never does this to my parents and basically knows I'm the worlds biggest puffball... .

Feeding "people" food is fine on occasion. It's best to use it as a supplement to canned food, though. There are quite a few nutrients that are necessary for overall feline nutrition. For example, the supplements you are using do not contain taurine. This is essential in a cat's diet. If you want a more extensive list of what is necessary for feline nutrition, follow the link to Lisa Pierson, DVM's site that is devoted to this topic.

Rather than a food with fruits and veggies which may increase the carb level, will Jake get interested if you crumble freeze dried chicken or put parmesan cheese on top of his food. These are low carb alternatives that may entice him to eat.
 
I sprinkle taurine on his food! However sometimes he just wont eat anything because he just doesn't feel like it, so he'll end up getting chicken breasts or the likes. I was feeding him raw food but he got over it... he gets over a lot. I'll put a scoop of 95% duck by Innova Evo in his bowl at night and go to bed. I'll wake up to a dried scoop of food and a hungry kitty.

I'm not too jazzed on giving him Parmesan cheese... he doesn't do well with dairy... mucho pooper! And I do have some freeze dried chicken... check this out, he'll eat the chicken and leave the canned food! He's SUCH a stinker!
