Cleo has 4 P's in place this morning. She is alert and exploring the patio. She had no interest in the Natures Variety chicken, the civvies loved it. I did get Cleo to eat a little of it by sprinkling some Forti flora on it. What the heck is with that stuff?? It makes my kitties push their way in to get at it!

Cleo did have a small meal at +9, and again, it did not seem to bring her AMBG down. It is hard for me to get a true non food influenced at +3, cause Cleo grazes all morning.

I have to watch her prezzies, since I found one hardish ball on top of litter. Not usual for my guys - wondering if the forti flora is constipating her after 1 day? Cleo left me her usual present in the afternoon :-D

You know, in the beginning of the trial, Shadow did some of that. I started waiting 3.5 - 4 hours after she last ate to test her again.
Everyone told me to check in 4 hours ( not 3)
Mine grazed every other hour in the morning too so I just waited or I held out and made her wait for her next course.

It was the freeze dried treats that were a little constipating for Shadow.

And I have trouble with most all chicken varieties, so I have to find one's that offer turkey instead. But the nature's variety rabbit is a hit if I don't offer it too often.

Mags used th eat the NV Chicken and loved it. I can't remember why we stopped. I don't use Fortiflora for Mags, but I thought it helps loose stools.

I will try testing in 4 today. I was able to get a small bag of the chicken - I will have to look for the other flavors someplace else. :-D

She does not want to be late,

So Cleo is chasing those greens,
She just wants to sit down and preen!

Day 8 and counting!

Fortiflora is a probiotic, a supplement that contains the good bacteria that the gut needs to process food. It will help w/ both diarrhea and constipation, by re-establishing the natural balance in the gut.

It seems like Cleo's numbers are going up more each day. At what point do I call this trial not working, and start insulin again? I hate to see her lose her momentum, and have to start all over again. She was drinking more today also.

Not sure if after rising some every day, a kitty BG will start falling?

Help please!!

Edit: and she has been on strictly LC food

I called off my first OTJ trial for Wink on day 13. I looked back at his ss, decided there were too many blues for comfort. I wanted a strong, long lasting remission if possible. Heck, when I first stopped the insulin, it was because he was going so low and I wanted to see how his BG numbers would settle without any insulin. The food change had made such a big impact on his numbers, I needed the dust to settle a bit before trying more insulin.

I put Wink back on 0.1U for 10 more days, to help him over the hump from his UTI/diarrhea which is what I think pushed up his numbers.

Tried a second OTJ trial after the vet and the cat shelter took away the insulin. I didn't have any insulin to give him a shot with, so it was a forced OTJ trial, not my decision. Luckily, his numbers held below 100 for the most part and 4 months later he is still in remission.

Does Cleo show any signs of infection (think teeth), inflammation, pain, nausea, etc. that could be causing these higher numbers?

You certainly want to see most of those test numbers below 100, in the green if you can.

No, she is not showing any signs of infection or pain. Peeing and pooping good. Still acting much better than before DX, and looking younger too. That is why I just don't have a good feel about these rising numbers.

She has been eating her "new" low carb CKD foods, not with the relish she shows for FF, but still by no means has a decreased appy.

If she is still in the blue, tomorrow BG, should I start her back on her 1 drop of insulin?

To me, it looks like the insulin depot has drained, and Cleo is creeping up a bit higher every day. The last 4 days, all the pre-shot tests have been over 100.

If Cleo were my cat, I would put her back on some insulin for a while. Starting her back on that 0.1U will give her pancreas more time to heal. We hate to see OTJ trials fail, but at this point, I think you do need to start Cleo back on insulin.

So sorry to disappoint you, but it's better to give a bit of insulin for a while longer to get a stronger remission later.

The CKD could be having an effect on her numbers also I suppose. Don't know for sure.

Thanks Deb, it is not a disappointment, it is a kind of relief!! I want her to gave a good chance at being OTJ, and these numbers were definitely making me nervous. Just didn't feel right after all her good numbers.

So back ON the juice tomorrow!

Has anything changed? Any sources or stress or has Cleo gotten into contraband?

Nothing has changed. No contraband, no visitors. She is still more social then before. Sleeping in the open, not under beds. She is acting really good!

I'm not saying you shouldn't put her back on a microdose, but for my Donovan, his "normal" was never low greens - it was low blues/high greens. I looked back at his SS, and he threw a 165 on OTJ day 9 and 151 on day 12; and he was typically higher in the AM vs. PM.

Maybe give it one more day?

Hi Jane,
Sorry Cleo will be back on insulin, but I think you are doing the right thing!
It is better you are happy with her numbers when she goes OTJ!
Hope the next trial will be a perfect one!

BTW, for some reason, I can't see Cleo's avatar.
Lucy's disappeared too yesterday.
Is it just me that I can't see her?
