Last night Simon's reading for +5.5 before bed (which is usually his lowest reading of the day or close to it) said 320. I did not second guess my meter last night, or the strip because frankly I was tired and it was easier to second guess myself at 1130 at night so I thought I might have given him a fur shot last night.

This morning, I got a reading of 142 for pre shot and I realized that something was off so I took it with my other brand new back up meter and got 290 - twice. So, I gave him his full dose. Praying the second meter was right, not the first one!
What would you have done?

You first gut instinct was that something was off. The gut instinct is usually right on target.
Also shows me the importance of having a back up meter!!
Have a Fantastic Friday!!

Not sure WHAT is going on.
Hubby was home today so he got a reading at +3.5 and it was 65!
Then he did one an hour later and it was 79!
Now, I just came home early and did one at +6.5 and it is 112.

So, these type of numbers beg the question, was he maybe at 142 this morning and not 290? Should have done a third test with the other meter again.

My numbers were in 5 of one another on both meters. The old meter said 91 and the new meter said 96, further confusing this whole day.

I suspect the 142 was right. DH steered his numbers back up with food which worked. Simon showed no signs of anything being wrong. He had a full dose of 2.5units and we are not sure if that was on the 142 amps number or the 290. Who knows. I just know he is fine and on the rise. ohmygod_smile

Whenever you get a wonky number, test again. You can also test yourself to see if makes sense - you should have numbers < 140 mg/dL 2 hours after eating a meal.

If 0.8 * the higher number is < 1.2 * the lower number, they are to be considered the same - thats the FDA +/- 20% variance all meters are allowed to have.

I did test myself. One meter said 91 and the other one said 96 (the newer one) so I had not a clue what meter was right on Simon. One reading said 290 the other said 142! Huge difference there. Anyway, he bounced tonight and was at 300 so today aside, he is back to his normal wonky self. :dizcat

Simon's giving you a rough time I see. Or perhaps, I should say, the meters are giving you a hard time, agreeing.

You did the right thing this am. Trusted your gut and retested. Good work!

Now Simon, it's to start behaving and getting down into those yellows at pre-shot. Come on now, let's do it.
