TGIF!!!! ~O) ~O)

WCR: A bit better than yesterday...appy & mood. I still think there is something about the dasuquin that she doesn't like. I had to add bits of Chunky Chicken & FortiFlora to entice her to eat her breffis and she's about .40oz from finishing. I just got her early snack ready so that I can leave early for my chiropractor appointment. I need to stop by my classroom and get a few things done before my appointment. Anyways, I decided to add a little squash to her snack...trying to see if I could cover the taste of the zobaline. It worked! :-D Tomorrow, I shall try to add the squash to her breffis to help cover the taste of the dasuquin. Ok, gotta run and get dressed and ready to go. I'll be back later.

Response to last night's condo: Cathy, I sure hope you can find a good home (or homes) for some of that material. I never realized how expensive material is until this summer. You'd think I was made of money! NOT! Actually, I have found some wonderful fabric at my local thrift stores...still doesn't help my wallet!!!

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

Hi, Deborah, I'm so glad Shasta likes the squash! (It's a hit in our home, too.)
Good luck with your classroom and chiro visits today  .
Have a good one!

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155

Thank you, Josie. I can't decide how Shasta is feeling right now. She seems a bit lethargic, but I guess it could be normal cat sleepiness? Her ears are a bit warm. Is that an indication of a possible fever? I don't have a thermometer and was considering running to Wal-mart to buy one...that is, assuming I can use a human thermometer (the ear kind...not even going to consider anal thermometer! :o ) Does anyone know if human thermometers are acceptable for feline use?

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155

by the way, kitty snores are the best!!! Well, they're more like grunts and squeals. The face twitches are cute, too.

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155

   I gotta agree...Kitty snores are the best. Hoots Momma is quite the snorer  She will wake us up  Yay on the pumpkin ;-) Have a great day :YMPEACE:

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155 +6.5=168

Thanks, Pam! I've tried so hard to get her snores on video but the audio won't pick up. :YMSIGH: Darn it.

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155 +6.5=168

I use a rectal thermometer that I bought at WalMart for about 6 dollars. It is designed for humans, but is fine for cats. It has a rubbery bendable tip. I just use some vaseline on the end and insert it.
I found that when I first tried it, I was only inserting it about 1 inch and was getting temperatures of like 97 or 98 or something lower than normal. I asked the vet, and he said I was not inserting it far enough.

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155 +6.5=168

Oh dear! I'm afraid that I might lose a limb if I try to insert anything up...especially after the anal sac expression of last night!   However, if I'm desperate, I'll give it a try and have the human ER on speed dial!!!! :-D  Thanks, Dyana!

Re: 7/12 Shasta AMPS=274 +2=232 +4=155 +6.5=168

Hi Deborah, I use Dasuquin for Mags, and I disguise it in some Gerber bf. I found she woun't eat her food if I mixed it in with it, but she will eat the bf, go figure! Oh boy I don't know on the human thermometer for pets. I know they always stick it in Maggie's rectum to get the temp. Let me know how you make out. I hope Shasta is okay, and this is just one of those kitty off days.

Nice blues sassy Shasta! No idea on the thermometer. I don't think that would fly at our house. Have a great day Deborah!

So glad Shasta is feeling a bit better. Finding the right combo of meds and the right medium for delivery is a challenge.

Though Poo Patrol does like all things poo, we are not very expert on other things back there.... You may want to post something in your subject line with the question icon to get the attention of those who may know more.

Hope you all have a good evening.

An alternative to the dasuquin may be Adequan. It's given by injection so there wouldn't be food issues.

Hi Deborah,
It sounds challenging to try to take the temperature of a cat! Good luck! I hope that all the strategies for getting Shasta's meds into her will work and that she will cooperate. We put Rusty's Allerplex into turkey baby food and present it as a treat (not as part of a meal or in his regular food). He loves it! (And since I finger-feed it as a treat, I know that he is getting all of it.)

Have a good weekend,

Hugs, scritches,
Ella & Rusty

Re: 7/12 Shasta PMPS=310 +2=224

Ok, so what kind of baby foods are you all feeding your kitties?! (as treats) I would like to try some with her dasuquin. Although, I'm thinking about suspending the dasuquin for a short bit to see if that has played a hand in her strange mood?! I don't know how it can be tied, but I'm just curious now.

Thank you all for your suggestions, information and well wishes. Her appy is better tonight and she's very clingy/grumpy that I'm not paying enough attention to her. :YMSIGH: :-D Guess that means I need to get off the computer for a little bit. I'll be back in a while...gotta get my kitty snuggles. ;-)

Re: 7/12 Shasta PMPS=310 +2=224

Thanks for dropping by our condo! I have ordered up some Dasuquin and I'll have to see what Buster thinks of it. Good to see there are some alternatives out there. I know for sure what Buster would think of the anal probe! Hope you got lots of snuggles in - Shasta sounds like a wonderful kitty.

Hi Deborah!
Looks like Shasta is coming down nicely!
(Shasta is such a pretty name.)

Looky at Miss Shasta in   I hope you figure out how to give her the dasequin so it doesn't upset her or go with the adequan. The thing that bothers me about the dasequin is the soy in it.....not good for cats.

I use this Braun Thermoscsn for the cats. I takes some practice and if your vet uses it, I'd get her to show you how. It may not be as exact as a rectal thermometer but its good enough and you don't have to put it in their private spot. I bought ours at Walgreens. You can get little covers for the tip so you can easily use it for humans and cats.

Re: 7/12 Shasta PMPS=310 +2=224 +4=107 +5=85 +6.5=73

Hi Deborah, I use the Gerber baby food Stage 2 (small jar) chicken & gravy to mix Maggie's Dasequin. Just place a half tsp or more and add a few drops of water and part of the Dasequin powder and mix. Mags licks it from a spoon. A lot of them have success with the Adequan shots.
Good luck with the thermometer. No way would Mags allow me.
You ccan also try Beechnut stage 2 chicken & broth. It's not as tasty as the Gerber.
