Hi Everyone,
Well, after 2 fur shots yesterday Rusty is yellow this morning. But the morning shot today got in, so hopefully he will begin to refill the shed and come down again.

Yesterday's paddle was fun, despite the fact that the day was very hot and humid and the air was swarming with deer flies and no-see-ums. In other words, the bugs were bad! But the paddle itself--up the Oswegatchie against the current, avoiding rocks and getting over beaver dams to a place called "High Rock", which is a huge rock complex in a rather flat landscape, where we had lunch. Then back to the start in half the time because we were paddling with the current. We had refreshments at the woods home of our friends (we made sundaes!) and then I drove the 2-hours back to Camp, where Edward and Rusty were happy to see me. Then I gave the second fur shot!!

Rusty is acclimating well to camp life. The night before last he was on the hunt. We woke up to a clatter, then total silence. Rusty had gone after a mouse and was waiting patiently for it to show its face again (he never did). We forgot to bring Rusty's brush, but we found Alice's old comb and it is perfect for Rusty's long hair (9 teeth to the inch). Edward has been combing him with it and he is getting off a lot of loose hair (and Rusty enjoys being combed with it). So I think we'll take it back home with us. It may help to eliminate hairballs. (Alice was not a long-hair, but she suffered from sebohreia (sp?) and had clots of fur that needed to be gently combed out, hence the comb with only 9 teeth to the inch).

Edward's leg is feeling much better, and we plan to take it easy today. It's going to be another hot day. We hope everyone is staying cool!

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

I'm sure Rusty will recover from the fur shots and be in good numbers in no time.

Ugh on the bugs, I'd be running to the hills
Hope the humidity breaks for you and continue to have fun!

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

I'm very impressed with you all. My idea of roughing it involves hot showers and room service! No more fur shots!

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

Sounds like you are in a beautiful place! Nice :-D (w/ bugs and all   )

Glad Rusty is doing well.

Have a great day

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

sounds like you need a hat with netting but not sure how that would be on a paddle :?: my DH and I both have baseball type hats that have netting that you can pull down over your entire face if needed during summer when flies and no- see- ums are really bad which to me can be all summer in some areas where we hike never can figure out a bug that wants to dive bomb into our eyes  anyway sure hope Rusty gets back to normal Rusty numbers now for you

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

Come on down a bit, Rusty. There's plenty of room for you in the blue and green rooms. :)

Sorry to hear that you got "bugged". I hope that you had a wonderful time, regardless. :-D

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

Good morning guys .. Sorry to hear about the furshots, but at least this mornings shot went in and soon he will be on his way down to the lower floors .. as far as the bugs .. yuck! Glad you had a good time though .. have a great day guys!

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

Morning!! it seems so odd to see a yellow number for Rusty!, so I am glad that today's shot hit the mark. I have no doubt we will see Rusty numbers by days end. Right Rusty?

YAY! on Rusty acclimating to camp life... nice on the hunt! I can see him patently waiting for his prey to reappear... Nice too on the comb - maybe something like that would be good for Mannie: he hates the comb, loves the zoom groom.

Your paddle yesterday sounds very nice - love the sundaes!! What fun! and bummer on the bugs.... You must have netting etc that you wear. I had some minor issues yesterday too while hiking: mosquitoes were out, just enough to be annoying...

Hey Rusty!! DUDE - what's up??? You wanna get together today? ~~ Mannie

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

OK Rusty....you got some time off..now time to get back to work!!! Glad you found the comb for him. And A MOUSE???? GO Rusty!!

Your paddling adventure sounds like a blast. I'm so glad you got to go. HOpe you have a great day. Tobey said he is headed back to Camp STu for canoeing and "cimmamun cake". Hope you have time to make it...if not, Im sure Mannie and kitchen krewe can do it!

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215

Nice that two fur shots still only get Rusty up to the low 200's!! The paddle sounds quite adventurous!! How nice to have a picnic and then sundaes!!! Worth the effort to get there, I'm sure!! :-D

I remember the swarms of gnats and horseflies the size of birds when I lived in South Carolina. I may live in Satan's armpit right now, but we have so few flying insects that I can't remember the last time I had to wave my hand in front of my face. Of course, we do have wasps and bees, but I run from them...no waving of hands allowed unless you want to make them mad!! :-D

Re: 7/12 Rusty AMPS 215, +5.5 193

Hi again,
Rusty is chillaxin' on the porch picnic table, watching the guests at the motel next door, and waiting for his pals to come to go swimming and paddling. He just enjoyed his new favorite "treat": a fingertip full of NaturVet Hairball gel. chop-lickin' good! He's coming down slowly and hopefully will continue to come down this afternoon.

Back later,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. Yes, we have headnets, caps with headnets, etc., but hate to wear them in the hot summer weather. We use them mainly for blackfly season (late May-June), because those blackfly bites last 2 weeks. Mosquito bites only itch for a little while! The deerflies are pests because they zoom around your head, but you can usually keep them from landing and biting!! In the canoe we throw water at them.

Those are some awesome numbers for fur shots! We would be on the red floor.

Sounds so peaceful and relaxing! I hope you all have a great time and Rusty catches a mouse or two.

Sounds like you and Edward and Rusty are having a wonderful time with the paddling and whole adventure. Rusty and Maggie were both up on the yellow floor this morning. It's nice to see Rusty coming down so nicely. Now Rusty can show Maggie how it's done. Have a nice evening.

Wow, 2 fur shots and low 200's is the result.. Maybe the insulin got into Rusty by osmosis  He'll get back on track soon. I'm sorry that all his mouse hunting and diligence in waiting for it to come out and play, didn't pay off for him. That must be a hoot to see him so patiently wait!
Sounds like paddling was a good time, and sundaes sound delish... Also glad to hear that Edwards leg is feeling much better.. I hope that you do get to take it easy this evening.. and the bugs stay away ;-)
