Purrcee is green so far today

One question - Not sure when I was suppose to start the Trial period. I know I was suppose to wait 72 hours to make sure depot empty but am I supposed to go back and change the 3 days to Trial days 1, 2 and 3 or start on the 4th day with Trial day 1?

Thanks!

Don't do anything. He doesn't have insulin on board. He's fine. No need for a 911.

There have been other cats in remission who throw 30s. My own civvies often run in the 40s/50s. He's ok :-D

Re: 7/12 Purrcee OTJ Day 4 AMBG 70 +4.75 48

Not to worry, he hasn't had insulin, he can't hypo. This may just be a normal number for him. Normal is actuall down to 40 but we try to keep cats on insulin above 50 for a safety margin. Feed LC if you want to feed something.

Oh gees...I didn't remember about hypo not happening with no insulin. I'm sorry for the 911.
I feed about this time anyway so gave them all lunch!
Thanks you so much. Taking down 911.

Re: 7/12 Purrcee OTJ Day 4 AMBG 70 +4.75 48

Hi Julie,

Nice numbers

No insulin = no hypo. A year or two ago, if you'd have taken Purrcees BG readings, you would probably have seen 48 on a routine basis. And I'm guessing that a year or two from now, you'll see the same thing. The nice thing about a 48 without insulin is that he won't bounce from it.

And in 10 days or so, you'll be able to exchange or donate all that MC and HC food in your pantry. ;-)

Julie

Because you were doing sort of a pre-trial trial ;-) we hadn't yet given you the instructions on how to do a real OTJ trial.

Here they are:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

  • If all goes well, after 14 days, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

So...you can go easier on the testing. As long as he is green at AMBG and PMBG, that's all the tests you need. Of course, you are already four days in :-D

Good luck!!!

Re: 7/12 Purrcee OTJ Day 4 AMBG 70 +4.75 48

Thank you Marje...I printed out your instructions and that is so helpful. It's good especially to only have to test 2 times a day if he is in the green.

Re: 7/12 Purrcee OTJ Day 4 AMBG 70 PMBG 80 ?? on testing??

Test at the normal times you did for AMPS and PMPS. That should be pre-meal.

If you find the AMBG and PMBG creep up a bit, feed a meal at what would be +9 if you were shooting.

Go Purrcee !
