Georgia and Simon (GA)

Member Since 2010
Once again, Simon is higher than his usual numbers. I am getting a little concerned especially since I had to start him on the steroidal ear drops today. I upped his dose from a f.50 to a s.75 this morning and will slowly up his insulin if his numbers start going really high on the drops. I hope the drops will help his scratching and being uncomfortable with itching all the time. He needs to be on the drops for 10 days, but I'll evaluate each day and also ask for help from you guys.

I'm sorry I didn't get to visit many condos yesterday. It was a traumatic day for me finding out that Cleo had kidney disease. I was so overwhelmed by all of your visits to our condo and the wonderful help you are giving me concerning Cleo's diagnosis and treatment. I am going to read up on as much as possible before cleo's vet visit on Friday to learn how to do the fluids. Karrie suggested keeping a binder of all the info from y'all and also the other stuff I read on the websites Marge sent. That is a wonderful idea and I am going to start that today.

Take care and have a great day. I am going to try and get home at lunch to check on both of my sweet babies!

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

Morning Georgia

Sorry you're having to deal with all this at once! Good luck with Simon's increase, I hope it
offsets any effect of the eardrops, and that the drops make him more comfortable.

And Cleo will be fine, with You taking care of her

All the best, have a great day!

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

Don't worry about visiting condos. You take your time to deal with Cleo and with Simon. Hopefully his itching will cease and his numbers come down.

The binder is a wonderful idea, I keep a file for Tray, it's great when you need to go back to check something and great for your vet too.

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

You've definitely got a lot to juggle right now...take care of yourself and your kitties - both of whom are in excellent hands!!

Morning to you Georgia sending lots of ear healing vines to Simon hope the drops help and do not elevate his BG too much for you and sending you lots of support for Cleo (((((((HUGS)))))))

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

Hi Georgia, I hope the drops help Simon's ears and he will get relief from the scratching. It's so understandable the feeling of being overwhelmed with Cleo's diagnosis, but you have a great amount of support here and there is so much help with our kitties with this diagnosis. I love the idea of a binder, too, great idea from Karrie. Hang in there and kitty scritches to Simon and Cleo and hugs to you.

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

Morning!! No worries on the condos...we all understand. You have alot on your plate now, and that has priority. I like the ideas suggested yesterday for Cleo - no doubt she will do great with all the help she sill be getting. I wish you much luck with the upcoming appt.

Good luck too with Simon and the ears, it is good I think to stay on top of his numbers while he is on the drops.

have a great day today!

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143

Morning Georgia. Sending big hugs today and hoping Simon comes down. It's tough at first when you have to deal with the FD kitty and a renal kitty but I promise you'll get into a rhythm.

THought of a couple quick things to help you. If you can get Cleo to eat canned food that is lower in phosphorus, it will help immensely. On Tanya's site, there is a great food chart that gives you the phosphorus levels. It takes some digging to find it so I thought I'd give you the direct link. SHe says it's important that you consider the whole cat so don't just go out and buy the first one on the list. For instance, some cats have high bp issues so you want to find one lower in sodium. Shoot for those foods with a phosphorus value under 1.00, the lower the better. But two really important things they taught me on the CRF group:

1. the best food for the cat is the one it will eat; if she won't eat the low phosphorus foods, you use binders when you need to
2. treat the cat not the numbers; just as in FD, it's about the whole cat, not just what the lab report says.

Here's the link:
Canned Food Tables for CRF

Take your time to adjust, breathe, read what you can when you are up for it, ask questions. You'll all do great. And didn't mean to hijack Simon's condo ;-)

Re: 7/12 Georgia's Simon AMPS 143 +6 101

Simon is a little better at his +6. Not sure when the steroid is going to kick in and I'll see higher numbers.

Marjorie, thanks for the additional information. Cleo is a pretty picky eater but I'll look for the low phosphorus food and see what she likes. The links you have sent have some great info in it.

Thanks for everyone's posts today -- makes me feel so good!!
