@Wendy&Neko This still can't be the bounce from the PM cycle of 7/9, can it? I really thought last night would be the breaker. There was that weird huge drop by +2 last night, so I thought he'd tank. Then, at his normal onset, nothing more.
I think something is going on...perhaps a pancreatitis flare? He was, after all, dragged from his home to the shore house on Thursday. I was worried the stress would give him an issue. He was fine on Saturday...really quite chipper in spite of awful numbers. But he was most definitely not yesterday. Under the bed, and off his food. He seems better today; he's v hungry and not under the bed, but the numbers....
I have to be gone all day tomorrow, so I'm afraid to increase tonight or tomorrow AM. I guess I'm also still hoping bounce...
He's bouncing from the blues the night of 7/9. It looks like he might be trying to break that bounce today and hopefully you'll see better numbers tonight, the sixth cycle after the last cycle of nicer numbers. Bounces can take up to six cycles to resolve. And as you mentioned, that huge drop to +2 last night could have set off another bounce.
Not sure why you fattened to dose today. With SLGS you hold a dose for 7 day. Plus, fattening a dose at this size of dose won't make much difference, you need at least 0.25 unit changes. At 5 units is where we go to 0.5 unit changes.
Fred is used to high numbers, not low ones. Think of a caffeine addict as a high blood sugar addict. Removing that blood sugar makes them feel lousy. It's only when they get used to lower numbers that they feel good in those numbers. I used to always know when Neko was in low 300's, cause she'd go play with her toys then. She's hide under the bed at her first greens. I was so happy when play time moved to low blues.
Gosh...I didn't see these responses yesterday; didn't get a notification for some reason.
He tried to break the bounce, but couldn't quite get there. Still crummy numbers overnight. Or perhaps it was the fat dose, which was not intentional, but a realization that my husband was drawing up the insulin slightly differently than I, so I think his dose was a little fatter. We straightened it all out. Then, since it seemed to help Fred a bit, I did it on purpose today. Tomorrow, he goes up to 4.75. I was out all day today and couldn't monitor an increased dose; same with doing it in a PM cycle.
I really don't like that the Lev seems to have less "staying power". Levemir seems to bet better at GETTING him down, but Lantus seemed to be able to KEEP him down once he would finally get there. He's seen so many more reds and blacks on Lev than Lantus, (other than the early days) and that worries me. The up and down is also very hard on him. I know he's used to those high numbers, in spite of my best efforts, but he just won't or can't stay down! We just reached one month on Lev, so early days yet, I know.
