Good morning. A quick Tasha update.

I'm waiting to hear from the vet regarding the ultrasound scheduling. Kitty is acting better this morning - not hiding, less lethargic, actually came when we opened her testing kit, etc. It's a big improvement over yesterday.

Her BG was 144. I debated trying the new 0.1u dose but opted to wait on the vet since Tasha's not spiking and seems perked up. I understand all the reasons this may be the wrong decision (she's running on her depot, etc), but it's what my gut tells me is right for my cat so it's what I'm going with.

12:30 ultrasound - Tasha's cage-aggressive so we're taking her in close to time as opposed to dropping her off for the day. She was reportedly "grumpy" when we left her all day for her dental. That's my girl! :)

Sending good vetty vines. I think you are fine to skip as some kitties BG's actually drop under stress. Not my Doodles but some do. Glad to hear she is feeling much better today. Those AB's can really wreak havoc on their little systems. Please keep us updated.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. She did well, which is a mixed blessing. They didn't have to sedate her because she wasn't feeling well enough to do more than growl. Though she's also been quite trusting with DrT so that could be a factor. But I like to think it was all the good thoughts you were sending. :)

I had a lot of fears of the C-word, but none of that. In fact, everything looks amazing. Her pancreas even looks beautiful - "very non-diabetic" according to the doc. Two abnormalities, and forgive my migraine-brain for not getting proper terms or screwing up explanations. One involved something to do with the pelvic floor of the right kidney and a potential blockage, but no stone evident. Basically, there's urine backed up in there and it's a triangular shape instead of the shape it should be. The other issue is a lot of jagged edges along the bladder wall, which is indicative of infection.

They also did a blood pressure check to rule out hypertension - normal reading.

Options - 1. Put her back on a different antibiotic - zenequin or one starting with a B (sorry - stupid migraine). They shouldn't be as rough on her tummy and are good with UTIs. 2. Wait a week, see how she's doing, do a urine culture for more info.

Since she had a really persistent UTI a couple of years ago and the doctor doesn't have that history, I'm going to scan that in and send her the info, then we'll make a decision.

Thankful they were able to keep the C word out of her diagnosis. Tasha what a good kitty for letting DrT and all the good thoughts help you with the ultra sound...... with no sedation.
Hope the infection gets cleared up soon...
Healing thoughts continue....:cat::bighug:

I'd also encourage you to talk to the docs about the possibility of ruling out a kidney infection (pylonephritis). This kind of infection can take a longer course of antibiotics to treat. That "persistent UTI" may have been a kidney infection. Your vet should do a cystocentesis (using a needle to draw a sterile urine sample from the bladder) to determine if there's a UTI present.

Sienne - We did a cystocentesis last week that came back negative for infection. She tried to do another today and there just wasn't enough urine in the bladder to get a sample. The vet is really torn between putting her on another antibiotic right away or waiting to do a culture - you can't effectively culture with antibiotic in the system, but if there IS an infection, we don't want to wait a week. Last week's urinalysis said no infection. The ultrasound says maybe? Or it could be scar tissue from a previous infection. But with Tasha not eating well, she's hesitant to put her on another antibiotic without being sure.

Poor kitty has a lot going on with her right now. I'm a little unsure about what to do, really. I just want her to eat - her weight was down almost a pound since last Tuesday. :(

Glad the U/S came back with good results. Could the other AB be Baytril (sp?) I know a few on the board have used it and seems to have less side effects. Sending appy & feel better vines to your girl.

Yes, it was Baytril!

She was 174 tonight so I gave her 0.05. She's still not eating so I'm going to try something different after dinner.

ETA: She ate about half a jar of chicken baby food. It's something at least.
