.....after starting a bounce last night. I am not surprised after the fast drop she had yesterday and the fact she hasn't been in green for 6 cycles. Now she is well again, I really need to start testing around the +3.5 to +6 mark to get her down safely into lower numbers and hopefully minimise the bounces.
Her appetite is good and she again belongs to the CPC (anti jinx)

She has started to jump on DH's knee pre dinner at night again after not doing so for ages. She used to sit with him for hours but all that stopped when her mobility got worse last year. Now she has suddenly gone back to sitting with him...which pleases him no end. She used to sit with her head resting on his chest and look lovingly up at him.

I am picking up the tramadol today from the vet.
I heard back from a compounding pharmacy late yesterday about the bupe. I was told for 100 caps of 100 micrograms temgesic it would be $330.00. That is equivelant to 1/2 a temgesic tablet which would be max dose for Sheba. Apart from the fact that is very expensive...I wanted a bottle of liquid not caps:banghead:. I spoke to a very nice young girl who was only the receptionist so she didn't really understand what I was asking I don't think. So...if the tramadol doesn't work I will ask the vet to inquire about price of compounded bupe/temgesic...very frustrating.

We are all being told we are going to have an Arctic Winter Storm over the next few days with very cold temps, cold winds and snow in many places it normally doesn't snow. I even heard there may be snow in western Sydney (at the base of the Blue Mountains). Voula lives 300 miles further south so she will get it sooner and colder.

School holidays are still ongoing so if I am MIA over the next few weeks you will know why.

When I was talking to the compounding pharmacy, even the regular pharmacist (chemist) had to go over to the compounding pharmacy section and talk to one of the compounding people to answer my questions. For example, I only get three months of bupe at a time, because the compounded stuff only lasts three months. So I worked with the vet to figure out the daily amount and she writes a prescription for enough bupe to cover those 3 months.

Good luck on your winter storm. I'm sure it'll be cold for you and probably not many people with winter tires. Time to stock up.

When I am at the vets next time I will ask him about the compounding pharmacy he uses and how he does it and if he knows the cost.
He has agreed to monthly cartrophen injections which I am really pleased about.
Am wondering if I should up her dose to 6 units (even though she has just had green numbers) and feed the curve to try and get her into lower numbers? Is that a crazy idea?

I hope Sheba clears the bounce soon. I'm not sure about increasing the dose. If she keeps clearing the bounce today that could make her zoom down. Maybe you should wait and see what she does today.

I hope your winter weather isn't as bad as they're predicting.

Yes you are right Carla...I would have to wait until she had come back down safely before I did it....if I do......thanks.
 
Do you have problems with the normal liquid Bupe? I thought it has no taste? Vyktor hasn't reacted badly to it when he's had it in the past, unlike tremadol which made him froth at the mouth like a rabid dog o_O nice to hear she's back on DHs lap :) it's those those sorts of things that make it all worthwhile :):):)

Serryn.....how do you get your bupe.....do you get it compounded? or from the vet. Do you call it temgesic in WA?
It seems to be really pricey over here in NSW.
I was very interested in Vyktor's reaction to tramadol.....yikes! that is awful.
How much did he have and did he have it more than once, or did this happen first time?
I am having real trouble trying to find a 1. suitable analgesic and 2. sourcing it.
I can get the tablet temgesic but the liquid I was offered in a syringe was hugely expensive ....Wendy also says it is expensive that way too. I need to find an inexpensive compounding pharmacy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!! I will ask my vet next time I go in.
Any suggestions welcome please!

Luckily I had read about some cats reacting like that to Tramadol before I gave it so it didn't freak me out completely. I gather it is very bitter. I don't recall the dose but I did not and would not give it again after his reaction it was just too horrible.

The Bupe comes straight from the vet in liquid form and I think they do call it temgesic I think it was pretty expensive but I've only had to give it short term. Would it still not be cheaper than having something compounded? For longer term use surely the vet can do you a deal?

I would be very careful with which compounder you use if you go that path.

As I was saying, I would be very careful in choosing a compounder. I happened to be chatting to the vet about them last week. They don't use any of the places here in Perth because they have found the dosages to be unreliable. They get all their stuff from a place in Sydney - I can find out who if you like. So it seems that all compounders are not equal.

Definitely not cheaper to get the temgesic from the vet. I paid 30 dollars for I think it was 7 doses! They take it from the vials they inject apparently.
If I go down the path of compounding I would definitely like the name of the place in Sydney please. I will let you know if I decide to thanks.

So good to hear Sheba is well again, and getting back to old habits, how lovely for your DH to have her back on his lap.:)
Hope you get the meds sorted and don't have to pay a small fortune.

I'd offer to send you bupe since I get it so cheap but it's a controlled substance and I can't get more than I need for my own. ( you know, another cat toy shipment) :facepalm:

It is pretty cold here today but not the coldest day we have had. About compounding our vet uses a compounding pharmacy in Sydney. I also read in the news about the hotel murder you mentioned. A man was arrested for the crime. It is good your family was in no way affected and that they didn't witness anything upsetting. Stay warm. Sheba can keep warming your laps which must be very nice to see again.
