Really i'm just opening this to have an excuse to say hi to everyone. didn't see a loose lips open so . . . punkin is doing fine. i emailed the DH and asked him to increase punkin's dose tonight. we're just running along trying to keep up with that tumor. good grief. he'll be up to 13.5 now.

i'm still in guatemala - 5 days down, 1 week left to go. kinda a long trip. we've finished our second day of construction on a school. there is a 2 room school in a village that pulls in 146 children - talk about overcrowded classrooms in the US!!!! this is kind of the epitome of that.

anyway, we're putting another wing on - 2 more classrooms. school is in session and the kids are all over us at every opportunity. the village threw a fiesta for us yesterday. it's about a 1.5 hr drive to get there from where we're staying, and when we arrived they were all there waiting for us. i swear! 150 school kids, plus all their siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents & everyone without children. We had speeches galore from everyone who could welcome us and all the school kids did presentations (dances and some singing) by grade. after the official stuff, i got handed about a dozen colorings done by the children. they were so sweet.

one of my girls brought embroidery floss to make friendship bracelets and we were promptly mobbed by kids with their wrists in front of our faces to get a bracelet. so we probably made a bracelet for everyone - even the mayor came and asked my girl to make him one.

so i'm busy but enjoying it. missing my kitter like crazy though - i know he's being taken care of and i should just enjoy the break, but, well you all know how that is.

tonight one of my twins is sick, so i stayed behind with her while the rest of the group went to a welcome party put on by the organizers of this program. i'm content staying with her, so it's fine. the woman in charge thought i should leave her alone - can you imagine? 14 years old, upset stomach, foreign country, no phone or anyone to ask for help if you got sicker . . . by yourself? plus her mom would've been so upset with me.

enough of that - back to your cats. i just wanted to say hi!

hi and hope you are enjoying helping out!!!

where in Guatemala are you?

just keep your eyes wide open at all times when you head off to the airport....DH was mugged at machete point in one of his guided tours.....a few yrs ago....

Punkin not doing bad at all.....

Hi Julie, It sounds like you're having a wonderful time and helping out a whole community. Kudos to you! It's great that you could do this and that DH can take care of Punkin, and that Punkin is doing well.
Have a safe, enjoyable rest of your trip.

How wonderful to hear from you Julie! Thanks for dropping in and giving us an update on your journey. I'm so glad things are going well there. Is it hot there now and have you had time to relax some?
Your DH is awesome for taking care of Punkin while you are away. I bet you miss them both terribly. I wish Punkin well with the dosecrease. Be safe and make sure you show us some pics when you can please!!

What a wonderful thing you're doing there with the school, and how nice your girls get to experience it. The people sound so grateful and excited. How sweet all the children wanted one of the bracelets. Do enjoy the rest of your time there and punkin is in good hands with DH.

JUlie, you sound as if you've brought your enthusiasm along with you on your trip! You sound very busy and very happy. We all miss you here, but know that you are doing such great things for those children. Stay safe and hurry home to LL!

God bless you, your endevors and be safe! What a great thing you are doing! I wish I had known, I would have "borrowed" some Mickey stickers from work to send you...
(I have a cousin who went on a mission trip to Africa about 4 years ago, handed out the stickers and sent me a cute photo of some of the kids and their stickers!)
Next time! Safe journeys!

So nice to see you check in! There's definitely a void here with you in Guatemala.

Hope you're having a great time!!!!

Julie: sorry that life has kept me from visiting your condo and saying what an absolutely amazing person I already knew you were but I am in awe of you and all you are doing. What a fabulous adventure.

I'm glad Punkin is doing fine. We miss you so much here but what you are doing is so very important and will bring so much to those who have less than us.

Sending you enormous HUGS!!! You're my hero!
