Started Jack on his new dose of 8units today. Still trying to get an appointment and response from the vet clinic on his insulin resistance tests. I fell like a broken record...dose increase, roller coaster, slight improvement, refusal to eat wet food, hope dashed, vet clinic ridiculousness. Play, Repeat.

I'll keep you all posted on the stupid vet clinic. Thanks for your advice and support, especially when it comes to the dosing. Have a good week all.

Adding to this post that I am officially starting to hate my vet clinic, since the email (below) I got back today shows inflated prices, and did not mention scheduling the appointment. I can't seem to find the post but @Wendy&Neko , were you the one who told me I need a Monday appt to ship Tues since MSU runs the tests on Wed? Maybe it was @Suzanne & Darcy I'm so frustrated I can't think. Plus, Mr Jack is creeping higher most of the day. Again, so frustrated!

To get those tests here we would charge
$72.00 for the Insulin Autoantibody test.
the test is $21.00 their cost plus our fees would be $57.00 + an estimated $15.00 shipping = $72.00 total.
$166 for the insulin like growth factor -1 - including shipping.
the test is $68.00 their cost plus our fees would be $151.00 + an estimated $15.00 shipping = $166.00 total.

Depends how long it takes to ship the blood to MSU, but it has to arrive there on Tuesday to be run on Wednesday. I live further away, so should have had an earlier appointment. All it means is you have to wait an extra week for the results. Not the end of the world.

I'd ask for a breakdown on their fees. It's just a blood draw and packaging. You'd do one blood draw for both tests. On the other hand, I paid even higher cause shipping costs were more and it had to go across the border. And that was many years ago. Shipping fees should cost more for 1 test vs. two. All you can do is ask why the double shipping charge.

The bill will be further itemized to show 'medical waste', 'office visit', and the tests, which they claim include the $15 for shipping, so the breakdown on their fees= price gouging and greed. The owner (not my vet) likes to go on vacation. I guess I never questioned the price of bloodtests because I never thought they would mark it up. You just always hear, 'blood tests are expensive, especially specialized ones'...WHAT A LINE! If I get any extra time, I'm going to call around to other clinics and see what their prices are. I'm beyond livid, and my emails with them are becoming contentious. There is a low cost clinic in the area, but I'm not sure they could process these tests; legally they are not allowed to mark-up on tests and have caps on what they can charge clients for services because they operate as a non-profit or low cost establishment or something like that. Thanks again for everything! Especially reading my rants!
