Wonky +6 again. The AMPS was a little bit lower than it has been last 1-2 weeks and a fairly decent drop by +4, don't understand the 60 point increase by +6. Meter? Dreading the dental as it gets closer to Thursday but hope it helps

I understand "dreading" the dental. Big Hen will be okay. Even with all of Kitty's issues she did fine with the dental. But, I was a bundle of nerves--so I understand!

Keeping you, Big Hen, and your cousin in my thoughts!

Kim

hopefully the dental will help!!
I hate when the +6 gets wonky!
It always seems to throw me off!

I am just worried about the dental in general and I am worried about him not eating anything there when he wakes up and comes out from under the anesthesia, he will be going from 10:00 PM Wed. night with no food and he never will eat anything there even when I send his favorite FF flavor and tuna flakes. Hes been there all day before and eats and drinks nothing. And I am not going to start the new vial of insulin for at least a couple of days after dental in case he comes down and its a lot stronger, old vial still has 1/4.
Barbara, my cousin is doing as well as to be expected, shes keeping food down now just very tired. Thanks for asking.

It may mean nothing to him, but might make you feel better if you take along an unwashed tee shirt of yours for him to lay on after the dental. It will smell like home and may be a comfort?

Will they let you come by with food afterwards to entice him to eat?

Good vibes to you and Big Henry. I am guessing they are doing a full blood panel before they give him anesthesia so they will know if it's safe to do so. I too was a mess the day of my kitties dentals but it's really great when it's over and you know it is taken care of. It took about two days for my guys to get back to normal and I have to say the civvie had a harder time with it than the diabetic. I took Sues suggestion and put old t shirts of Toms and mine in their crates.

Thanks for the t shirt idea Sue. Will try that. I usually have a fleece baby blanket, a towel and his flexi mat in the crate with him. I am sure they will let me come up there and feed him, I think its just the whole atmosphere there, he hears other cats, dogs, etc. Hes never bad there, very cooperative.
Donna, hes having a full blood panel and EKG before the dental.

Another question for all that have had their cat's teeth cleaned.
Did your vet suggest using some once a week sealant for their teeth (can't remember the name of it) or brushing their teeth or adding Oxifresh to their water to prevent tartar build-up? If any of you do this, how hard was it to get your cat adjusted to the brushing or sealant application?

I think he'll be ok even if he doesn't eat there. You are bringing him home that night right? I think he'll be fine. Have you decided what you are doing insulin wise? I think maybe I shot a 1/2 dose, but I don't remember exactly.

No insulin the morning of dental. She has not told me what to shoot the evening of the dental, but I will be reducing. He will be under pain reliever Torbitol?
I may reduce a little the next morning too until I see how hes doing and how his appetite is.
