AMPS 118

We will be off to see a different vet for an acupuncture consult today. Buster has been doing a lot better lately - not as stiff, not licking his elbow as much. We're still going. He's not getting any younger and I need a good excuse to take the afternoon off  I hope maybe she has some different ideas that will help his lil joints. Wish us luck!

TGIF!!

Re: 7/11 Buster AMPS 118 - acupunture appt today

Good luck at the acupuncture vetty Buster!

Zener had three treatments, and was a very good boy during the treatment, unfortunately not much carry over. The beans left very relaxed. ;-)

Re: 7/11 Buster AMPS 118 - acupunture appt today

I figure it's a 50/50 chance to help him out. I'm also just curious to see how it all works, anyway. Buster isn't too bad at the vet. I think he will tolerate this.

Back from the appointment! That was interesting to say the least. He was a very good boy through the whole thing which lasted more than an hour since it was our first time. She said she couldn't really feel anything alarming in his elbows and was going to try to get the x-ray from my other vet. It was weird seeing Buster sitting there like a pin cushion, just as calm as could be. He napped all the way home and then I discovered he still had a pin in him!! Of course it was the pin that was right in his "bad elbow" I took it out and hopefully he can walk it off. He was limping some. Back again in a week. She advised me to continue with the Adequan and Cosequin. She wants to try Buprenex for pain management if he doesn't show a response to the acupuncture. Time will tell...

"sitting there like a pin cushion" -   Have you ever had acupuncture, Tara? It's very relaxing. Buprenex doesn't agree with Zener (slows down his GI tract, we think) but Gabapentin seems to be working pretty well for him. Just another option for Mr. Buster. TGIF!

Re: 7/11 Buster AMPS 118, +5 81 - acupunture appt - we're b

I haven't tried acupuncture yet, but if it's that relaxing...I'm in!! Buster looked like he was feeling pretty dreamy.

Re: 7/11 Buster AMPS 118, +5 81 - acupunture appt - we're b

Neko was pretty relaxed after her first pincushion experience. One of the first ones they put in (the head) releases endorphins which relaxes them. Neko gets a combo or acupuncture and pen laser so not so many pins. Our last session, vetty showed me how to do acupressure on the spine, so I've been doing that daily in the hopes that we can get more carry over out of the sessions. It's pretty easy to do and Neko tolerates it well.

Neko is on buprenorphine for pain management. We did try adding gabapentine to see if it helped, but I don't think it made any difference and just made her very sleepy. So pain management is very much ECID. There is a constipating effect to the narcotic, but I counter it with a bit of baby food squash in the main meals.

We are also continuing the Cosequin and Adequan equivalents (what I get in Canada) but have also added Hyaflex. Oops reminds me, time to give that to Neko. She hasn't been on that long enough for me to say if it's helping. Something else you can talk to the vet about.

Dreamy, that's a good word to describe acupuncture. Good point about ECID for pain control.
