So discouraged by this morning's AMPS. Tested it twice, hoping it was a mistake. First AMPS was 374.

Re: 7/11 Alice: AMPS 369

Greetings....looking at your spreadsheet, it looks like you think you might have given a fur shot? I am fairly new to this myself and I am sure someone more experienced will chime in, but if you look at Skooter's spreadsheet, 06/27 and 06/28, I had a fur shot and it did make him rise quite a bit....so the 369 may just be a reaction to the fur shot....

Again, I am fairly inexperienced in this stuff, but thought it might make you feel better to see 1. someone else's fur shot numbers and 2. generally speaking Skooter's numbers which have been WAY all over the place....he is a tough nut to regulate for sure!

Re: 7/11 Alice: AMPS 369

Probably was a mix of things. Biggest is the probable furshot. Plus we've been messing with her dose to keep her out of danger so you have a little NDW (New dose wonkiness) and lastly that 77 the other day triggered a bounce. She'll come back down...Patience Grasshopper.

Thanks for the encouragement, Skootersmom and Mel! I appreciate it!

+4 was 87!

I didn't know it was even possible to drop that far in 4 hours time.
It was a good clean ear test. It's a brand new meter with a brand new pack of strips.

Gonna take a nap and maybe do a +6 later.

Edited to add: +6 = 90

Oh it's possible!! And usually sets off a huge bounce back the other way. Its that old physics principle "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction"

But as long as they don't go too low, their livers catch on eventually and they stop bouncing.

We call this the Sugar Dance for a reason. Like learning any dance in the beginning your awkward, you stumble, forget steps, fall on your butt etc. But with time, patiences and practice the dance becomes second nature. You get to a point where the music starts and your body instinctively moves to the music. But unlike every other dance only one of you hears the music you're dancing to and its not you its Alice. You are not in control, she is and she'll decide if you two waltz, samba, fox trot or leave the dance floor never to return because she doesn't want to dance anymore.

Also like learning to dance there are those that have danced the dance before who can teach you the steps, how to follow your partner's lead and most importantly cheer your success, hold their breath when you fall and offer a hand back up. That's the job of those of us that now give advice here. We've all danced the dance you're now dancing, some are still dancing with longtime partners and some with new partners, but everyone of us have or are sharing the dance.

Thank you so much, Mel. That brought tears to my eyes. I can't tell you how much I needed to read such a beautiful, thoughtful post today.

Thank you.

Oh sweetie we all we're once right where you are right now trying to make sense of something that seems to have no rhyme or reason to it. It took others to help us step back from the mess of numbers and colors on a spreadsheet and look at the patterns and even more importantly our beloved cat.

You are either get from me or see me ask another to give me a Whole Cat Report. I don't do it often but when I do it's to get you to remember Alice is more than her bloodsugar readings. What I'm asking for is things like is she happy? Does she purr when petted? Is she preening? Are her eyes bright and clear? In short is she acting like a cat?

Its so easy in the beginning to forget that Alice is still Alice she's just a little extra sweet now. We women especially are "fixers" we want everyone around us happy and healthy and when they're not we want to fix it right NOW!! It's hard wired into our DNA to heal, protect and nurture. We feel and react differently than men, now I've know and have known some awesome Sugarcat Dads, but they do dance differently than we women. Exactly the same steps but a different feel to the dance.

Btw Alice is Beautiful!!! I miss my black guy terribly I lost him to cancer 2 years ago. He wasn't a sugarcat but my BFF and the reason I said Yes when my husband asked me to marry him 8 years ago. So when I saw your avatar this morning my eyes got a little misty too. They always do when I see a black kitty.

Once again, you guys have been so encouraging just when I need it!

I think Alice's higher numbers this morning discouraged me in part because I had sort of a meltdown last night ... overwhelmed by CATS! I've had six indoor cats for a while now and we had a routine, a system in place, that worked for us. Alice's arrival changed that considerably (I've been late for work every morning since she got here, lol), but it's been doable. Plus she has a sweet, laid-back personality and it's been a joy to see the changes in her as she does her "Sugar Dance." ;-)

But taking in my late friend's two boys, John and Charlie, late last week has been the real challenge. Neither one of them were really held, petted, or cuddled much as they grew up, and, consequently, they're quite aloof and, in Charlie's case, downright MEAN. DH thinks he'll settle down, but if he doesn't, he'll have to be an outdoor cat. He's just causing too much turmoil within my happy, cuddly community of kitties.

Mel - as far as the Whole Cat Report goes ... yes! I see wonderful things in Alice .. . purring, preening, playing ... so unlike what she was just two weeks ago. I think the playing is what amazes me the most. Da Bird, the laser light, even a random scrap of kraft paper on the floor, Alice is playing. Something I haven't seen her do in years.

It was two weeks ago tonight that I lost my friend, Juliette, Alice's "mom." She would be so happy to see how far her girl has come in that short time.

Only 6? Hon have you looked at my signature? I have you beat by 10! Plus a 127lb drooler who up until last month all lived in a 745 sq ft house. I can intergrate just about anyone. If you need help with the boys just yell.

I've got everything here from a 9 month old feral kitten to Autumn who is an 15-18 yr old sugarcat retired barn cat. Lol

 I'll be glad to let you win that contest!

Every spring and summer I pray, "Lord, please don't send any more cats my way!"

Lord ain't been listenin'!

Lol DH and I swear there is a flashing neon sign only cats can see above our old house that said. CAT SUCKERS LIVE HERE!! FREE ROOM AND BOARD AVAILABLE!!

We even joked about did we need to try and find it and turn it off when we moved. Well tonight I think I know where it is...Above the NEW house just set out a bowl of kibble for a scrawny about 9 month old feral kitten that was raiding the trash bins. Luckily the rescue I volunteer at just freed up 28 spaces with an adoption marathon so if I can catch I might be able to hand off to them to tame down. Or if DH gets it first....Mariposa will have a playmate...MEN!! Lol
