Sending feel-better vines to ((Kathie)) (for her heart), to Maggie (for her post-enema recovery and appy), to Jupiter (for his leg), and Zener (new to fluids).

Ripley is doing great today. Great appy, #1 in the LB, and squawking at me because once again, I did not put enough treats in her breffis :lol: . She's still super snuggly, keeping tabs on my whereabouts in the house.

DH and I miss taking trips together ~ our favorite thing to do during the summer is to go camping. Has anyone ever taken their FD kitty camping? It may be tricky to convince an old girl like Ripley to relax and enjoy it... but we're thinking of getting a harness for her and taking her on small car rides (she only goes in the car to go to the vet ~ negative association)... DH found a netted playpen/tent thing online. The most challenging things might be keeping the insulin at a proper temperature and administering fluids out in the woods... Who knows if anything will come of this. Just 'brainstorming' I guess...

Good Morning Guys ~O) Ripley is looking great :mrgreen: And I still just love her Pic :-D It totally makes me smile :-D We are big campers too! But we finally got a travel trailer. No more ground for me dancing_cat I have not taken the cats with us because I could always leave them at home. Hoots sister "Hissin Heidi" has traveled a lot. She does well with a harness, but it took some time for her to get used to it. We have a trip planned in August for a week and will have to take Hoot with us. He also hates the car ride, but I have no one to take care of him. He likes the trailer, till I turn on the air...very scary noise nailbite_smile and it will be August in Florida so trust me...the air WILL be on :lol: I got him some Rescue Remedy, so we'll see. IMHO,I think it's worth a try to take her ;-) But you know her best cat_pet_icon Have a great day :YMPEACE:

What was this about "higher" PS values? :-D Thank you for the fluids vines and stopping by Zener's condo with kind words - it helps so much. :-D :-D We don't travel together any more either. There are coolers that plug into the dc outlet of a car. I don't know if that would be cold enough for insulin or how much you would have to run the car to keep the battery charged. Maybe you could use an almost done pen so that even if it got a little too warm, it would be time to replace when you got home anyway.

Hi Josie. Ripely is off to another nice day. Hope she does some surfing.

We had a net type long rectangular enclosure that we would put the cats in when we were in our camper. It was made for cats and they liked it. As for keeping your insulin cold, they make 12v refrigerators. We sold them in the parts store of the RV dealership were I was the GM. They work very well but are a bit pricey with a retail cost of about $355. They draw about 4-6 amps when running. This could give you 8-10 hours of run time on a car battery. The draw back is that if you don't monitor the drain on the battery it will draw it down to the point that you can't start the car. Also remember that it takes quite a while to bring your ca battery back up to 100% just by running the engine. If you're tent camping you might consider buying a separate battery or a small generator and just use a dorm type 110v fridge. Also it might get too hot inside of a tent for Ripley. If you plan on getting a trailer get one with "central" A/C. They are MUCH less noisy than the standard trailer A/C. If you go the trailer route and want some pointers on what to look for PM

Beautiful blue number to start at for Ripley! :-D

I am so impressed by how many beans take their kitties on the road with them, even camping!! I think our kitties must be much more resilient than I thought :-D
DH and I talk about renting a trailer when we have enough time off and taking the whole crew with us. But, even that sounds intimidating to me. But, it would be less stressful than leaving them all at home.

As always, a gorgeous start for Miss Ripley! I hope she surfed those greens like she always does!

I have to admit, I'd be nervous travelling with the kitties. Of course, I'm also nervous leaving them in someone else's care, too...and that was BEFORE Trix was diabetic :roll: :lol: ! Fortunately, both DH and I are really homebodies any more, and we enjoy sticking close by.

Well, Miss Ripples must've read my comment in Trixie's condo about higher-than-normal preshots; this morning's and tonight's preshots are looking pretty nice. :mrgreen:

Thank you so much for the visits, all. And I appreciate the input regarding camping/traveling with kitty cats. I'm hesitant about the idea, mostly because of putting stress on Ripley. But finding a caregiver is pretty much out of the question, too. It would be a while if we do camp with Ripley; the amount of preparation (ie, harness-training, ordering supplies, doing research, waiting for cooler weather, etc.) would take a good amount of time. I miss my redwoods, and getaways with my DH. But of course Ripley is Numero Uno in my book.

The Frio wallets are a good way to keep insulin cool (but not really cold, so I would recommend not taking a full pen camping). These are designed for human diabetics and need only cold water to activate.

If you have questions about which one to buy, the US representative, whose name is Patti, is very helpful. We have one that we keep for emergencies.

Rusty "camps" with us in our cabin, but we have never taken him "camping". Good luck. It sounds like adventure awaits!

Ripley's numbers look really good!!!
I too sometimes wish I could take my cats to places, like people take their dogs, but my cats would never enjoy it.
My friend has been taking her cat to everywhere since she was a kitten, to work, to visit friend, etc. etc., so she seems perfectly comfortable outside her home. Amazing cat.
