Well, I was exhausted and fell asleep on the couch (I woke up still wearing my skirt - didn't even change into comfy clothes yesterday!). I was too tired to get up for her +9 snack... I think she may have had her own snack at around +10.5 - I got up to take the leftover food from last night away at that point and she was coming back from the location of the bowls.

She ate ok - probably a little less than 2 Tbsp, but she did it all on her own - the only thing I did to encourage her was to occasionally take her bowl and scoop the food into the middle.

I also may have given a skinner .25 today - I tried to measure normally, but I slept in my contacts and my eyes were all bleary so it was tough... I'm not noting this on the SS because I hopefully measured it right, but I was making sure to aim slightly lower, rather than high. And the lines on some syringes are a little thicker than others, which messes me up a little anyway.

I had charlie horses (muscle spasms) in both of my calves - one at a time - while I was sleeping last night. Both times, woke up in pain, trying to rub the tensed muscle to relax it. I haven't been eating right at all - just not eating mostly, so clearly I'm not getting enough potassium or whatever. Going to have to do something to remedy that because this is about the 4th time this has happened in the past month. But the first time I've been lucky enough to get the spasms in both legs in one night! The muscles spasmed so hard, they still feel bruised...

...

The night before this past night, I had started to doze off and then something woke me up. I turned on the light and saw Kasha and Blue on the bed. Touching. He was lying against her. Just part of her, but Kasha does NOT like any other creatures, except me - and then only for a minute or 2 at a time - touching her. But there he was. And she didn't seem to mind. Thought I'd share a pic:

Hey good Morning Krys! That picture is priceless, just beautiful. Two little Angels! It seems like they are both comforting each other. It's a good AMPS for Kasha. I can imagine how exhausted you must be as you've been thru a lot. I hope you can catch some rest over the weekend, and oh yes, some good food, too!

Re: 7/10 Kasha AMPS 177

I had to share this - cuz I'm amazed. I just decided to try to put drops in Kasha's nose. I figured I'd try the colloidal silver solution I have, since it's made to be a nose spray and supposedly helps with infection. Plus - at worst, it will provide moisture and can't hurt her. I braced for a fight... Went over to where she was relaxing on her papasan chair. I tilted her head back (which is when the fighting generally starts). No fight. I had a clear view of her little nostrils and a little syringe that I'd used to suck up some of the solution (I wasn't going to try the spray on her!). I dripped the solution into her nostrils. Nothing. A little more. Nothing. I refilled the syringe (I'd only put a tiny bit in before) and dripped some in the other nostril. No reaction. I stepped back. She sniffed a couple of times and then licked her lips. That's it. That's what I was braced for.

I can't believe the things she lets me do to her! What a wonderful little girl she is!

Aw....what a cute picture.
What a good girl Kasha is for letting you put her drops in her nose.

As far as those leg cramps it could also be from dehydration as well as a lack of potassium. So get a bunch of bananas a jug of water and have a
nice day.

Mmmm... a bunch of bananas and a jug of water - sounds like a party to me! I drank a ton of water yesterday (and quite often, actually), so I'm guessing it's probably more like an imbalance - my potassium levels are probably low so I will try some bananas. I think raisins are good sources of potassium too.

Re: 7/10 Kasha AMPS 177

And cantaloupe is supposed to be a good source of potassium, as well.

The picture of Kasha and blue is so sweet!

I'd give your vet a call before using a homeopathic or any holistic product on a cat. Just because something is relatively harmless in a human doesn't mean it's OK for Kasha. A notable example is aspirin and acetaminophen.

Re: 7/10 Kasha AMPS 177

Hi Krys, Yes, do eat potassium-rich foods, or drink something like Gatorade, which has added electrolytes and potassium. If you drink too much plain water you deplete your body of electrolytes and that's what causes the cramping. That's why long-distance athletes don't drink plain water during or after races. Get some rest and listen to your body!!

Hope that Kasha will stop sneezing today! The picture of Kasha and Blue is wonderful.

P.s. Pool party tomorrow at Spot's. Tell Kasha & Blue.

Re: 7/10 Kasha AMPS 177

Kasha's all ready for a pool party. She's look all svelte and trim on her low carb diet... And Blue has been practicing jumping so he can do some cannonballs into the pool.

Kasha used to weigh nearly 15 lbs. She spend most of her adult life around 14 lbs - the only time she was 10 lbs (her current weight) was when she was very young or when she had a thyroid problem (and dropped down to 7 lbs!). I fed her the best foods I could find - at least I thought I did... If I knew then what I know now... 10 lbs is her ideal weight and she's been there and holding steady. Yay!

I put Blue in front of the couch and put his paws on the couch and he jumped up onto the couch! I tried again - and he hopped up again! He's been using the pet steps, but I wanted to see if he was able to jump all the way onto the couch without them. And he can. Yay!

Yesterday at the vet's office, a woman came in right after me to have her cat's glucose checked. I turned to her and said, "don't you check it at home?" and she looked at me funny and said, "oh, he only needs it checked once in a while". I said that I checked my girl's glucose myself every day. I asked if he was on insulin and she said yes, for a few months now. She had a defensive edge when she said it, and I'm not good at handling people who are closed off... I'm kind of confrontational, so I just shut up. I wish I'd had time to write down this web site and tell her to check it out. I was uncomfortable saying "hey - you could save a lot of money and take much better care of your cat if you monitored him at home" right there in the office - felt like I was taking business away from them - and since I've been there so much lately... it didn't feel right. But it's nagging at me.

BTW: My vet said that she's been showing off my spreadsheet because she's amazed at the amount of data I've been able to amass. She said she's had 3 people in 18 years who have been willing to test at home. I think it's crazy that people shoot blind... I mean - you're shooting something that could kill your cat... you'd never shoot a person without testing... how can you do this to your cat? I know, I know... preaching to the choir... But seriously...

She ate about 1 1/2 Tbsp FF dinner. Not great, but not too bad. I gave her a tsp or 2 FF snack at +9 as well.

She was congested at dinner. I fed, gave her shot and then gave her A/Bs. I had trouble with the a/bs today - dumped some of them on the towel on the counter. Which means she won't get a full 10 days of a/bs... But, unless I get every drop out of the bottle, she wasn't going to get a full dose on her last day anyway unless I mixed in some water to get all the dregs out.

I'm wiping her nose - I kinda think it's a little gross when I see parents wiping little kid noses... And here I am, wiping snot out of my kitty's nose... No, not gross at all.

she complained about the syringe full of Cefa drops when I squirted them in her mouth, but I think she secretly likes them. They're orange-pineapple flavored - or something crazy like that. Kasha is enough of a human food eater to appreciate them, even if it's not a taste most kitties would prefer.

Going for a walk now.

Half hour after the cefa drops, she vomited all of dinner and a/bs... According to what I've read, this may mean she's sensitive to the cefa drops and we may need to switch to a new a/b... Of course, it's Saturday night, so I won't be able to do anything till Monday...

Oh I'm sorry to hear Kasha vomited and might be sensitive to the drops. It always seems to happen on a weekend when out felines need help. Does she have an emergency # where she could be contacted. See what the others say. Hang in there Kasha and you, too.

aww I'm sorry Kasha's threw up and she isn't feeling well. I'd rub her tummy for her (counter clockwise for sore tummies) but I hear she doesn't like creatures to touch her.

I LOVE that pic, two beauties!

I emailed our vet tech and asked her for advice. She first suggested I give Kasha the meds in the morning, 2 hours before breakfast, and then see if she vomits breakfast... but then I explained that I cannot be on that schedule (getting up at 3:45 am and risking her vomiting her breakfast when I have to be at work)... So we decided I will try the drops again tomorrow night and if she vomits again, we'll need to switch to another A/B. I will probably try what I did last night - feed, shoot and then wait an hour or an hour and a half so I know some food is on board before the insulin kicks in... then give the drops. That way, if she vomits, I don't have to worry that she has no food in her when the insulin kicks in. Like tonight - she was obviously feeling poorly after the vomit and she wouldn't eat much after... so she is going into her cycle with very little food in her - which worries me.

That's great that you can E-mail your Vet and get some help. Good luck with the next dose of meds and hope she feels better soon and keeps her food down.

Hey Kasha!
You gotta get to feeling better girl! I'm expecting to see you in a cat-grass skirt at Spot's Luau tomorrow!

Purrcie

how lucky that you had your camera nearby to get that shot. Maybe that will start to happen more often, who knows?

Nice numbers today.
