Happy Fursday! Lots of healing vines to Lucy, Tiger, Sasha, Minka, Tricia, Zener, Trixie, Trey, and Sabrina. Cheering on Zack!! Thank you all so very much for your birthday wishes yesterday in Gracie's condo and the one Carl started. I had a lovely day and it meant so much to me to have your sweet wishes!

You may recall that Gracie had scratched the inside of both ears so I was putting extra neosporin in there (a lot, actually). All of a sudden, she has gotten these big welts on the outside of her ears. We got in to see Dr. B today and she did all her NRT on her and it appears she is extremely allergic to the neosporin! In the past when we were testing a lot, it seemed she would get these little pimple type spots but they'd go away. Mike thinks (and Dr. B agrees) that when I put all that extra neosporin on the inside of her ears, it caused a massive allergic rxn. There does not appear to be any bacterial, fungal, yeast, or viral stuff going on thankfully. I feel so bad for her but they don't actually seem to hurt her....just itch. But Dr. B did not want me to put any hydrocortisone cream on them because of Gracie's past liver issues. She gave us a lidocaine spray to use instead of the neosporin and also a good a/b ointment that doesn't have the same ingredients as the neosporin. She thinks it might be the proxamine in the neosporin that is causing the issue. She also appears to be allergic to the TJ's chicken/turkey/rice 10% that we've been using. So that's now gone. Other than her ears, she tested a perfect 10 on everything. Whew! I was worried the culprit might be her shrimpies!!!

I had an appt this morning so she decided to Lil Stinka her dad. I am sure her current numbers are vetty influenced as it always really stresses her out. It makes us so sad....she actually shivers and buries herself under the covers. I hope she levels off a bit.

Hope you've had a great day and will have a super evening.

Poor lil Gracie. Sending lots of kisses and healing vines for her little ears. Interesting on the proxamine in neosporin. Neosporin isn't available in Canada, so I've been using Polysporin, which doesn't have proxamine. Actually I just got some neosporin on my latest test strips road trip. But the Polysporin Complete we have here seemed to be doing the job.

Thanks goodness the shrimpies are safe!

Poor Gracie. I hope she gets over the allergic reaction quickly. I see she's still being her same dramatic self. I'm glad it wasn't the shrimpies.

Hi guys,
Glad to hear that it was "just" an allergic reaction and hope that all will be normal again soon. Poor Gracie. Give her some gentle scritches for us.

Hi Marje! Interesting you posted about neosporin, and what a coincidence that today a friend told me she was told by someone not to use it and to only use polysporin, and I told her use it on my kitty. Well, I went and googled it and read some conflicting info. In the end, all the professionals/vets say it is safe to use and they can ingest it but not enough to be harmful. Thats too bad that Gracie's allergic, but good that you found out!

Glad to hear you had a great day yesterday Marje!

Poor Little Gracie- I hope that spray is going to work as well as the neosporin for pain! :YMSIGH: I think I'm going to be looking for polysporin now that I heard about this! I wonder, Is the Trader Joe's chicken and turkey food actually organic turkey and chicken? I've always wondered if the hormones and antibiotics in all of our pet's food could have consequences.

Poor Gracie, so scared going to the vet. Tillie is the same way, shivering and shedding like crazy. An allergic reaction is about the best diagnosis possible, easy enough to remove the allergen. Interesting about the proxamine. I hope her ears heal quickly.

I doubt the TJs is organic. But my thought about why she tested weak for it is because it has fish in it and she's had some allergy issues with fish before. We thought it was far enough down the list to not matter especially because she doesn't get that much of it.

I don't know if there are issues with the Neosporin, in general, or just with Gracie. I think if your cat is doing fine with it, I wouldn't worry.
