I am cross-posting from Lantus to see if I can get some help to my questions. My cat, Simon, has a history of ear allergies and they are really bothering him. His previous vet put him on Tresaderm for ear allergies and his blood sugar skyrocketed. He has taken Tresaderm in the past (before FD diagnosis) but now that I am monitoring his bg, I noticed that he is very sensitive to the steroid in the medication. My problem is that he is not responding to the Zymox without steroid which my current vet gave him and I have also tried an anti-histimine. Poor Simon is scratching his head and ears and I know he is uncomfortable. My civvie, Cleo, also has some ear problems (different problem) and she is now on Zymox with the steroid. My question: Should I go ahead and try the Zymox with the steroid for Simon even though I know he may react to it, causing his bg to go higher? I can monitor closely and also up his insulin if needed during the time he is on the med.

Any help or ideas are very welcome. If you know of something else to try, please let me know. I am just not being a good bean because my poor Simon needs help and I don't know what to do. Thanks!!

If the problem is yeast, you can try an anti fungal like Conifite. That is what I used for my Twigie after the steroids in Tresaderm and Animax sykrocked her BGs.

Larry, I don't think the problem is yeast, but I'm calling Simon's vet today and I'll ask him about it. Thanks for the idea about using Confite. I'll post once I get some answers from the vet. Thanks for your advice!
