Crystal had a good day yesterday but I didn't give her any R last night as we were out for the evening, as expected she was high this morning. She also had a vetty visit at +10 to have her overgrown claws clipped. Didn't see our usual vet, she's away this week, but the vet we saw admitted that Crystal was the first cat she had ever seen with acromegaly - I resisted the temptation to stand on my soapbox and just let her clip her claws. She was amazed that her claws needed cutting again so soon, last visit was beginning of April when she had a check over plus claw cuts. I did notice a sharp intake of breath when she was reading her file notes - I presume that was the bit that said 60u BID but she didn't make any comment. Crystal was quite distressed by the visit, it was increadibly hot again today and she was panting and breathing very heavily so I just wanted to get in and out as quick as possible. Surprisngly she wasn't too high at PMPS, when I gave her the 11uR again, same as this morning. Good appy this evening, had a bit of tandorri lamb tonight as a treat from the bbq, which she loved, so I think she has forgiven me for taking her to the vet.:)

LOL! Poor vet probably had a coronary! Keep in mind, 1u R is usually the max they will give a kitty... so if the Lev dose didn't knock her out, the R dose SURELY did! Welcome to insulin resistance at it's best!

I trim nails at my house usually every 2 weeks. I can't imagine what they'd do if I went months! Some of my guys' nails crazy long in just the 2 weeks, where others go more like 4. The longer I wait, the more holes I get in my shirt! :)

Yep, just couldn't be bothered explaining all the reasons behind the dose, I know I am up against a brick wall here :banghead: but I did say I had been in contact with the RVC, again, silence. You would have thought she would have taken the opportunity to ask more questions as it's the first case of acromegaly that she has seen, maybe she was just as hot and bothered as I was.

Yes I would have thought the vet would have grabbed the chance to ask about an unusual case...and to see one first hand would be quite interesting I would think.
You are certainly having a long hot spell over there.
Hope Crystal gives you some blue....with a PMPS of 202 she might get there.....come on Cystal

Some vets are keen to learn more than others. It may only be the first confirmed case of an acro cat she's seen, especially the RVC study of one in four diabetic cats being acro also holds true in France. No reason it shouldn't. Some vets don't like to show that they have gaps in their knowledge.

Nice on the +4 blues. :cool:
 
Suki, I have read many of your threads, and occasionally asked questions, but I must admit I've never looked at Crystal's SS. I had to go check in when I saw the "60u BID." Wow!
 
Thanks Bron and Wendy for visiting tonight. Crystal's bedtime test was 180 at +6, so going in the right direction. Better bgl than I hoped for today. Supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow, hope so, it was about 36 today but over 40 when I went back to the car with Crystal, thank goodness for air con.
 
I can imagine the gasp when the vet saw those dose numbers. I'm lucky my local vet just let me do whatever I wanted with Polly, even if he didn't always think it was necessary. Probably easier for him to let me go free then to read all the stuff I printed out and gave him!

Looking good Crystal. Even with the discombobulation.

@pollydoodle , I agree Marilyn, as she wasn't my normal vet, I think she just didn't want to get involved. My vet however is always ready to discuss the condition and shows interest in the articles I give her, although I still get the impression that she doesn't approve of the high doses, but she can't go against the evidence when I show her Crystal's ss.

This morning's AMPS was 202 so I gave her another 11uR but she might need more tonight, see how she goes during the day.
 
Isn't it lucky that Crystal has you for her people and not the vet?

At one point my vet said something to me about punkin being meant to come to us, because of his diabetes. I said "but he wasn't diabetic when we got him" and the vet said "but he was going to be." I've thought about that a billion times - how many other people would do for their cats what we here on FDMB do for ours? And if a cat has acro and costs a fortune, how many people will give them what they need? So perhaps the universe turned the way it was supposed to when Crystal chose you, because you've been a blessing to her and given her what she needs. :bighug:

People here get it. I used to get so irritated by the callus people in my real life who didn't understand. Mainly my brother-in-law. But you have to feel sorry for someone who has never loved a cat so much that they would go the extra mile for that cat. We're blessed by their love.
