Good morning LL!

P's update:
Bob is ok, pee is looking a little heavy again. It changes from day to day! :?

Food transition update:
Picking up some forti-flora today or tomorrow and going to get this kitty to switching foods! I'm in the process of switching from the Purina DM to Orijen dry (same carb content). If Bob will be stuck eating dry food, I at least want a good quality one. He actually likes it so it won't be hard to get him switched to this one. Then, once I have the forti-flora, I'm going to start on the canned food. An itty bitty bit at a time. It has to work!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed. nailbite_smile

Also, Novmax meter is on the way so I can check for ketones at home!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! :-D

Hi Dara,

Getting our kitties to eat the "right" foods is one of the most frustrating things!!! I hope you find something Bob likes. I am thinking of ordering the Forti-flora just to have on hand. I will be interested to see if it helps Bob eat the wet food.

If you try the Merrick Cowboy Cookout, the numbers that are on Dr. Lisa's food site are for the old version. They are coming out with a "newer" can, that is why the old cans are on clearance. The new cans say they are sliced in gravy. Old cans are a pate. I would hold off on the slices in gravy until we know the carb count.

I hope Bob's numbers come down for you. I know how hard it is to walk out the door every day (well, five days a week) when you really want to be around to feed and test and cuddle!!

Jane

Good luck w/ the transition, it can be soooooo hard to get some cats to eat what is good for them. The latest thing I have been using to get Tess to eat is PetNaturals of Vermont soft treats. They kind of crumble and Tess tries to push my hand away from the bowl to get to her food then.

Hi Jane -

well, bob's not even close to eating wet food anyway so I have plenty of time to wait for the carb count on the cowboy cookout!

And you are right - it is hard to leave everyday! Wish I could just carry bob around with me to keep an eye on him! Or maybe I could just hit the lottery and stay home every day! :-D

Thanks Ann! I'll look for those treats. I know he likes the nasty friskies treats, but haven't found any low carb ones he likes yet. He's def not a fan of anything dehydrated like the pure bites. He didn't like the YA treats either. I'm just hoping to try something one day and he magically loves it! I'll let you know what he thinks. Where did you buy them?

I get them from VitaCost online, but I have seen them at Petco. VitaCost is about half the price. I use the "Calming" variety, since I'm trying to get Tess to let Emma in the house. Don't know that it has much of a calming effect, but she does love them. We've use the "UT Support" too and they smelled about the same, to me at least.

My civie Delta hated the freeze dried chicken treats at first. So I bought some Whole Life freezed dried liver treats. She loved those. They crumble really easily over food too.

Once she decided she liked the freeze dried liver, I tried the freeze dried chicken again. She now loves it! Cats will be cats and little picky devils!

Hi Deb - ewwwww....liver treats sound hideous, but I'm not a cat. I think the DM has a liver flavoring in it and maybe that's why Bob likes it. I shall try those as well! I would love to be able to get him to exercise with them. If I throw a piece of food, he just stares at me. Or if beefy Hector is around, he will run and get it. Crazy cats! I hope you and Wink are doing well!

Love the new pic of Bob as your avatar! He is such a cute kitty. And a nice sunny start today. :-D

Good luck on that fuds hunt. One thing both my cats will practically kill for is a piece of freeze dried chicken, turkey or duck heart. It's a bit fattier than the breast so I think it smells better to them. I've put pieces of FD liver inside a treat ball and that got Neko playing for a while. But she is very food motivated.

Thanks Wendy! We think Neko is beautiful!! I finally found that website where I could create an avatar and was able to get a better picture. Now I just have to figure out how to post a picture in my posts and I'll be happy!

I'll try to find the dried heart pieces (icky!). Where do you get yours?

Just google freeze dried chicken hearts. You can get them on Amazon and there is at least one manufacturer who supplies stores. Mine are from Canadian manufacturers and there are paperwork issues with meat crossing the border so most don't sell both sides of the border.

To post a picture in your post, it has to be smaller. Just go to the Upload attachment tab below where you type the post, browse to the file on your computer and select it, add the file. At that time you can add a comment that will appear below the image. Then you can Place Inline to position it in the text.

Hi. I just stopped by to say that Bob is so photogenic or you are a good photographer :-D
Hope the transition to wet food goes better than you expect. Fingers Crossed.

Hi Dyana - I just happened to get a good picture - I'm not a good photographer. If you want to see photogenic, you should look at Bob's profile and check out pics of Hector. He is extremely photogenic - I always get good pics of him. I was going to submit some of his pictures to those companies that make cat calendars, I just haven't had a chance. He's so funny - he ALWAYS looks surprised in pics. He has huge eyes. LOL.

You're right, Hector does always look 'Bright eyed and bushy tailed' and ready to tackle the world. Mr. Innocent look.
