And what a beautiful day it is here. Going to take Henry outside for a walk. He's no longer biting me since I've been taking him outside. And he purrs when I pick him up. Makes my heart so happy to hear him do this. I'll get a video of him outside today and share later. I'm going to do some weeding today and then just chill. All the stores are closed and so is the gym. I have to answer the phone or emails if a US client calls. Other than that pas de plans.

HAPPY LONG WEEKEND.

Thanks, Tena! It's a beautiful day here in Southwestern Ontario. I wonder if Karrie is going to catch a glimpse of William and Kate. The royal couple is joining in the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa.

I have been working on trying to get Teddy and Pinkerton to be more comfortable together. Pinky is getting a lot more running around the house time, while Teddy is confined to one room. Then in the evening, I put Pinky in a crate in the TV room, and Teddy is in the same room with us. They have been able to sniff each other and watch each other. If they look at each other close up, they get a treat. One evening I opened the door of the crate (with Pinky on leash and harness), but he chose to remain quietly in the crate. Quite often, on his run around the house time, Pinky chooses to go lie in the crate. I think it is going well. The next step will be for Pinky (on harness) to be free in the same room with Teddy. Pinky seems quite calm about this process, while Teddy is the one who seems fearful.

I have been inspired by the puzzle box videos. I don't have insulin syringe boxes  so I used a tissue box. Teddy thought I had taken leave of my senses (since when do I have to work for a treat?), but Pinky is on board with the program.

What a wonderful report on your two furbabies. Great job.

Curry use to go to the crate too when she was alone in the room. It seemed to be a safe place for her.

And Sidney was also skittish around Curry when Curry was crated in the same room. One thing I would do w/Sid then was to try and engage her in play while Curry was in the crate....at a safe distant of course .....to work out her anxiety a bit. I didn't see a change right away but over time I began to see subtle changes with Sidney getting closer to the crate. I had to do it daily to help Sid and also to show Curry that Sid was important.

Paws crossed for you guys.

And Happy Canada Day Linda.

Oh boy....vidoes....I'll be waiting Karrie.

Happy Canada Day!!

Happy Canada Day to the neighbors up north :-D

July 4 isn't too far off for US members  Anyone going on vacation this weekend or have other plans? I don't think I'll be doing much of anything tomorrow or Sunday. Monday I'll be stuck at work... all day :-Q Holidays don't really apply to my job field :? No one on my team volunteered to work after I reminded them last week about the upcoming holiday so guess who got stuck with working?

Leroy jumped onto the cat tree and trilled his lungs out
Wish I could see that!

I need to get a video of him trilling and stuff. Most of the time he stops by the time I get the camera ready

Karrie, does Henry wear a harness when you take him outside? I've been toying with the idea of putting a walking jacket on Leroy and taking him out into the common hallway for walks. But then I worry about someone complaining to management about a cat in the hallway, even though technically, according to the rule book, Leroy would be properly restrained and not running loose.

Linda, how are you doing?

I'm doing OK. I miss my babies. I posted this photo on FB the other day. As I drove into work at sunrise I saw this beam of light shooting straight up into the sky. I think Emily sent it to me.

Happy Canada Day to all of you! Karrie, so happy to hear Henry is taking a walk with you. I saw the neatest harnesses at PetPeople today. I would love to take Maggie for a walk, but she freaks with just a collar!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

and Linda...that is BEAUTIFUL! got to be from the Divine Miss Em.

Is it just me that finds this commercial absolutely rib-splittingly funny??

that's up there with one of the oddest commercials i've ever seen! but funny, yes!

happy canada day from me too! wahoo for holidays.

we're talking about going hiking at Silver Falls on Monday, that's about it. it's maybe 1.5 hrs from us and is gorgeous. i think there's 14 falls and the coolest one you can walk behind the water. probably be a lot of people - my husband really wants to go, i could be very happy staying home.

OMG Was that for real??? That is freaking hilarious!!!!

Ann - he does walk on a harness. I tied him up the well cover thing and started doing weeding. He slipped out of his harness. Tsk Tsk. Have to tighten it. He's all hair (actually lots of fat but lots of hair too).

Linda that picture is so beautiful. I'm sure Emily sent that beam for you to see. Hugs.

Squeem, that sucks that you have to work. I'd love to see the trill on video too. Are they still liking the big cat post? I bet Leroy would love to walk on a harness. Would Emma be jealous though?

I haven't watched the puzzlebox videos but they seem like a hit.

i think it's real...she looks suspiciously young to me tho...

i'm probably asking this too late in the day...but

Linda- is this a recent thing with Ted and Pinkerton?
or have you always had to separate them?

Gorgeous picture, Linda  I think Emily did send it to you ((Hugs))

Yeah it does suck :? I always seem to get stuck working every holiday because no one else wants to for their own (selfish, IMO) reasons grumpy_cat So while everyone on my team gets to relax and have fun, I'll be stuck inside working my butt off :? I've been frazzled a lot lately with the amount of work I had to do @-) By Monday I might be close to being burned out :-|

Leroy seems to clam up whenever he sees me with the camera  I'll keep trying to get a video of him trilling.

Are they still liking the big cat post?

They do :-D Emma took a nap today in the tunnel  Leroy msut be part monkey because he loves climbing up and then launching himself off  They don't seem to miss the modular playground... that Leroy broke the other night.

Good question. Emma might wear a walking jacket but she might not want to be walked around. I love these walking jackets: http://www.kittyholster.com/Boutique-Line.html The boutique ones look sort of like those fancy Asian silk brocade dresses

I haven't watched the puzzlebox videos but they seem like a hit.

I used to make smilar puzzle boxes out of tissue boxes for Squishy Merlin  I used the empty insulin syringe boxes for my gerbils' maze

Got to join in to wish my friends across the border a Happy Canada Day. All the talk here is of The Royals' visit to Ottawa (our radio and TV stations are bi-national here).

Karrie, I'll bet that Henry really likes his harness and being able to go outside. And it's wonderful that he lets you pick him up now and purrs. You've won him over! Rusty has a harness that Phoebe got for him to travel in the car in, but we haven't used it for that purpose yet. We plan to use it for walks outside our cabin later this month (it's too dangerous for him to be outside there free, even though I don't think he would run off anywhere; he sticks pretty close to us when he is outside here at home). We are right next to a small motel/cabins and many of the guests bring their dogs and let them run around. And there are coyotes in the area.

Linda, How beautiful that Miss Emily sent you a sign that all is well with her and Bear Man. And it is neat to read that you are trying to get Teddy and Pinky used to each other. I know that you are a bit apprehensive, but it seems as if it is going pretty well. I haven't put a treat in Rusty's puzzle box yet because I think he'll pulverize the freeze-dried chicken treats trying to get them out!

Squeem, too bad you have to work on Monday. We're going to a picnic at our friends' camp, which is only accessible by canoe. We're hoping for good weather!

What to say about the Dairy Queen commercial??? I'm speechless!

Everyone have a good holiday weekend,

Ella & Rusty

That sounds fun  Hope the weater is warm and sunny

If I'm not too wiped out from work on Monday, I'll watch the local Fourth of July concert on tv. Lionel Ritchie was supposed to be featured but he pulled out and Martina McBride is going to perform instead.

I love the kitty holster! If I ever let Victoria out for walks this would be a must. She has a wild side to her. I love the fabrics they chose also. Very nice looking.

Pinky has been separated from the other kitties for most of his life with me. He came to me as a foster kitty after surgery to amputate his hind leg. Shortly after I decided to adopt him, he became aggressive with my two female kitties. After they both suffered abscessed bite wounds, and Emily nearly died from side effects of her treatment for her second bite wound, Pinky went into segregation. I did consult a behavioural specialist, but Pinky could never get over his aggressiveness. Now he is older, and my two more vulnerable kitties are gone, so I am trying again with him. Teddy is lonely, and would love a kitty friend. It is so ironic that my last two kitties cannot be together

I didnt know that... sending hopes that they can bond...

oddly enough...today would be a picture perfect day at my place for Kitty Peace-Paws Across All Boundaries...
They are all 3 lying on the couch with me and hissing/growling completely absent

Next in line...the sky will fall...but for the moment...the peace is heavenly!

I'm going to have to watch it tomorrow. My dog is in the bedroom and she reacts badly to my computer sound being on :( It will be a great video to watch tomorrow with my coffee :)

OK this is just so strange. This afternoon my son and his girlfriend went out for a walk. They came back all excited. A black and white tuxedo cat had followed them home. She ( I think its a she) had followed them for about 10 minutes. She came right up to the deck we have in front of the house. None of us have ever seen a cat in the neighbourhood like her. Daniel went and got her some food and she ate with gusto. She seems like a real sweety - very friendly . At that point unfortunately Malachi was let out accidently. The kitty ran under the deck and Malachi followed. (That's his special place.) There was some kitty screeching and a few seconds later the kitty emerged with a scratch on her nose. She didn't leave though. She let us hold and cuddle her. She even let me hold her like a baby like I used to do with Tori. She has the same body build Tori did and walks exactly like her too. Anyway she stayed for an hour or so and then left or so we thought.

This evening Daniel woke me up saying the kitty was back. She ate like crazy again and then visited with us for quite a while. We are thinking is probably lost or was abandoned. There's no collar or tattoo - couldn't feel the little rice like grain of a microchip. I know it could still be there. I'm in love and all set to keep her if she keeps coming back or at least look for her owner. Daniel thinks I'm crazy. He says that Tori and Malachi will kill her. I think we could work on introducing everyone if she is a stray and she passes a vet check.

AM I crazy here? Or should I say more crazy than usual. I keep thinking Tori has something to do with this.

Hi Barb, Go with your heart. If she's lost there may be posters in the neighborhood. If she's abandoned, maybe she's found a home. Our Alice was abandoned on our Brooklyn street. When we encountered her she was being chased by a gang of little boys with sticks and bats. She ran into our doorway just as we were about the leave the house. She was terrified. We admonished the boys, decided to stay home, and Alice stayed home with us. We never knew how old she was, but she was with us for 11 years before cancer took her. She never complained about anything. Her home was the most important thing to her (and her music: she loved Wagner, Strauss and Gregorian Chant). Alice was our pioneer kitty--our first one. About a year after she went to the Bridge we adopted Stu from the ASPCA (he'd been returned twice!).
If Tori sent you this kitty as a birthday gift, you will know. It may be coincidence, but it did happen on her birthday!

Hugs to you and your family,

Ella & Rusty
