Recently at Tricia's House of Chaos

Sorry I was MIA again yesterday. I didn't get a chance to sit down at the computer until late afternoon, and then discovered the internet was down! It was still down when I went to bed around 2:30 am! Apparently there was some vandalism/terrorism in the Bay Area that involved slicing fiber optic cables, and large portions of the San Francisco to Sacramento area lost their internet!!! WTH is wrong with people????? I was able to use my tablet to get online, but I had to use my minutes to do it, so was very sparing about how much time I spent. By then it was too late to do a condo, anyway.

So anyway, here we are, plugging along. Cinco stepped right back into the same pattern on his "regular" dose without missing a beat. I had to give the shot last night, and I was positive I got it all in - no insulin smell, but when I saw his numbers, I questioned myself. Now I'm wondering if it could have been a bounce, seeing that he did come down and was considerably lower at AMPS. That made me feel a little better. I am starting to lose confidence in my ability to give him his injections. Darn fingers just don't work well enough. :( I was gone between +2.5 and +5.5 today, so I don't know if he went lower than 67, but I was happy to see him in the lagoon again. :D

Yesterday was litter changing day, and I took the opportunity to remove the second litter box from the bar area, leaving just the giant one Cinco was using with no problem before his hot spots. HUGE ANTI-JINX, but so far, so good! :) Of course, the first thing he did was get in and deposit a loose poo up against the side.
icon_rolleyes.gif
But, it was all IN the box, so I got over it. Also, he seems to be leaving his hot spots alone, and I haven't found any sign of new ones (more anti-jinx)! Paws crossed this is all behind us. The question is, what happens when/if I take him off the Zyrtec? Or is it the fish oil that's helping? I also think the latter is making his poos looser, so I've reduced his squash and increased his Forti Flora.

Minka has had a couple of so-so days in a row. Not bad enough for appy stimulants, but I had to work to get enough food into her. I did give her some Cypro a little while ago, to see if I can break the streak. She seems to feel okay - not great, but not bad. Frustrating.

Harvey's IM e-mailed me last night to say, apologetically, that they had somehow not done a culture from the urine they took last week, and could I please bring him in this morning to try again?
icon_rolleyes.gif
Of course, I did. She also gave me some food to try - Hill's d/d. It comes in duck and venison, and I was hoping this would be more successful, as he has liked the other duck and venison foods he's had. We tried the duck when we got home and he gave it a few licks, but that was all. However, he seems a little off today, so it may not be the food. I gave him some Ondansetron, and we'll see if that helps. He did like the dry she sent home, but I'm more concerned about the moist. We'll try the venison tonight.

She does NOT think that Harvey is diabetic :), based on his numbers, but thinks the Pred and maybe something else (UTI or kidney infection?) is causing the higher BGs. That's why we are still pursuing a more GI friendly diet, with the goal of reducing the Pred. She said if these flavors don't work out, it's okay to try the kangaroo, but her concern about that is, if he likes it and I can't get more of it (it is hard to find, I understand), we are back where we started. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

It's HOT here - 103 yesterday and probably close to 100 today. Summer appies are also in play with everyone but steady eddy Cinco. We're supposed to get a little relief from the Delta breezes starting tonight. My wallet would really appreciate that. I don't think the A/C has been off for more than 30 minutes the past two days. :(

Other than the summer appy, Sasha is doing well. She likes the d/d dry, too, and I think it's a good one for her, as it's for skin support, and she's always been kind of itchy. Haven't tried the canned on her yet. Too bad it's 17-19%, or I'd feed it to Cinco. Maybe for when he's diving.

News flash: Minka just came in and is eating Harvey's d/d duck moist! She likes it! :) Guess the C&C kicked in. It's nice and low in Phosphorus, too, so it's a good one for her as well as Harvey. It's also got a decent amount of calories.

There was a HUGE traffic mess on the way back from UCD, which took us an extra half hour to get home. I haven't had lunch yet and am starving, so I'm going to grab something to eat, then I need to run some errands. I'll try to do some visiting tonight.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Extra prayers and vine to Amy's DF, Marje's DM, Chris' DM, Molly's DM and Elise's DM.

Oh My! No Pretzel Bites on Monday! things seem to be doing fairly well on the kitty front however. I'm glad that Cinco has been leaving his hotspots alone and using the LB properly. The fish oil could be causing the soft poo. Izzy has some skin problems and I asked Dr. S about upping the oil. She said fine as long as it doesn't five her diarrhea. what have you been treating his hot spots w/?

Interesting on the Kangaroo food, is it Addiction brand? If so Chewy.com has it and it's on Dr. Lisa's list at 12% carbs. Unfortunately they didn't get the Phosphorus info to her. According to their website it's supposed to be good for skin problems too.

I'm glad the kitties seem to be doing well overall. Yay for Cinco leaving his hot spots alone. I hope you can find some food Harvey likes. Hopefully the urine culture will give you some answers.

Thanks for stopping by, Ann and Carla.

Love, the blue PMPS. Now let's hope for no more bounces. Of course, I didn't give this shot, so the odds of there being a problem automatically go down.

@Ann & Tess, I really haven't been putting anything on the hotspots - the dermatologist said to keep them dry. I did put some Aloe Vera on them in the beginning. At the very beginning I also tried an ACV and water mixture Marje recommended. Neither really seemed to make a difference. What helped was covering them up so he couldn't get to them. The dermatologist put him on an AB and Zyrtec. I also started him on the fish oil to try to help with the itching. The kangaroo we've been discussing is the Mauri brand, I think. I don't know what's special about it - I haven't done any research, just seen it discussed by Rhiannon and others. Good to know there are brands that are more easily available.

Okay, HUGE anti-jinx, knock on wood and paws crossed. Harvey ate the d/d venison canned!!!!! He ate half of his, stopped for a potty break, and on the way back stopped and ate the half of Minka's that she left on her plate! He's since been back to his and ate half of the remainder. Cautiously ecstatic.

Sasha ate it with garnish (as she does everything these days). The dry is duck and he likes that. So do Minka and Sasha. I know I haven't gotten much sleep lately, and that makes me emotional - I started to cry when I saw him eating Minka's. Now, I'm going to calm myself down 'cause I know he could turn up his nose at it next time.

Tricia it looks like Mauri is slowly adding more stores. They supposedly sell it a few miles from me in a store I've never heard of but sounds too wild and expensive in Beverly Hills. I tried to call a little while ago but nobody picked up. Max really liked it but if it's as high carbs as Addiction it won't work here.

Appy vines, poo vines and whatever else that can help are being sent to you.

I don't think Mauri is high carb but I guess I wouldn't know from Shadow's reaction.
@Marje and Gracie was trying to contact the company ( in New Zealand) to see if they would share info.
The website shows stores that carry it....
and any store seems to be able to jump on that list.... my local store got me some.

I have the rep's cell number. He's in the U.S. He told me 4.4% carbs but I don't know if it was dry matter and honestly I don't think he knows what that is. I cAlled the shop in Beverly Hills but they don't have it. Maybe they just signed in. I'm going to call the rep again tomorrow. If you want a laugh,, check on the web for this new pet shop.

Sorry for hijacking your condo Tricia.

Tricia, I can identify with the heat. 101 here today. You said squash for the stool. I have been using pumpkin and seems to be working, but what kind of squash do you use?

Nice to hear from you, Elise, Rhonda and Rhiannon. I don't mind the hijack, at all. Interesting store. You should enter the contest, @tiffmaxee.

@rhiannon and shadow, mailed your box this morning, too. Thanks!

@Shiloh & Rhonda, I use Gerber's baby food squash. I have been giving about a teaspoon every morning in his food. He doesn't like pumpkin. I backed off to half a teaspoon starting today because his poos have gotten a little too loose since I added the fish oil.

If the Mauri works out, I'll be happy to shove as many cans in a Priority Mail box (up to 75lbs I think is the same shipping cost) and ship it to you! The store I ordered China's Nature's Variety from has shelves and shelves of it

Looks like China and Cinco have been comparing notes again...starting out high, diving too quick and bouncing back again

Good to see everyone is hanging in there! Keep cool! Get some rest!! Send those kitties to the full moon party: there's still time to get on the cruise ship!!

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for stopping by, Chris, Ella and Rhiannon.

I feel so much better, seeing Cinco doing the same thing tonight he did last night. I gave him the sniff test, and no evidence of a fur shot. Don't know what the heck he's doing.

@Chris & China, thanks for the offer. I'll let you know. I haven't even checked to see if it's available anywhere around here. Tell China to stop teaching Cinco bad habits! :p:joyful:

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA), they're on their way!

Sounds like you have had a normal...usual....day at Tricia's house of chaos:joyful:
Appy vines to all your crew.
Hope you can get the food issues sorted

Maybe Cinco just needs a little bit more time to settle back in to his old dose. He has had some nice visits to the lagoon!

I hope Minka's appy picked up last night, and yay for Harvey liking the Venison! Believe me, I understand how emotional you can get when they do eat something, and eat it well! Anti-jinxes coming from here, too!

I can't believe they "forgot" to run the culture. Ugh. One time my vetty was switching computer systems; DH had taken our GA senior Mario for BW, and rather than ask DH what to do because the system was down, they guessed. And since DH wasn't me, he didn't know they did the wrong BW until he told me the total of the bill (I was at work) and I immediately knew it was wrong. I went OFF on the vet's office. Of course they weren't going to charge me for the error, but Mario was very arthritic and taking him in a carrier was hugely stressful -and we had to take him back because they couldn't change the orders. Oh, I was so mad!

Anyway...I hope all is well with you guys today!

I did get the numbers from the company for a few of the flavored. The kangaroo is 4%. I'll have to look at the others. They were LC. Gracie wouldn't touch the brush tail.

Also, I have been having a bit of a time getting Gracie to eat with her usual fervor so decided to dip my toes in and buy the Merrick LID because the company still hasn't sent me the as feds. The LID chicken did not raise her BG at all and I figure it must be pretty LC because she was coming down and it didn't even slow her. I haven't tried the duck or turkey on her yet.

I just happened to mention the Mauri to the owner of the independent pet store where we shop and she said I can get that. She had a sample can each of kangaroo and brush tail and she gave them to me. Mike just picked up the case of kangaroo small cans. I can send you some to try, if you wish. I'd try to find an independent pet store and see if they can order it.

I sent you one or two cans of kangaroo. can't remember now and I sent you all the diagnostic kangaroo and squash I had. I think I sent you a mauri brushtail and a loki too.
That was yesterday so I've allready forgotten.:rolleyes:o_O
