Good morning,

Thanks for checking in on us and for your advice yesterday, Sienne and Michelle.

Angie has a nice ambg - 110, given that she had MC last night. I can lock her in my room and program her auto feeder with snacks (she'd eat it all in one go otherwise). But I am scared of shooting. How frequent should she have snacks?

Why would it be better to shoot and feed extra, risking higher BG anyway then to skip?

Thanks!

Re: 7/1 Angie ambg=110 shoot or skip?

How long will you be gone? You can get a +2 test? Paws crossed on the new house. :-D

Grace

If you have supplies and will be there, there's really no reason to not shoot this number. you shot a 77 yesterday and look how nice and flat she was.

Go Angie!!!

Sorry Marje, I should have been clearer. Early morning brain.

I need to leave at +2.

Sorry...I had to jump off really quick.

Did you shoot? If not, how long will you be gone?

Re: 7/1 Angie ambg=110 shoot or skip?

I skipped in the end. It was getting later and I wouldn't have been able to get a +2. I will be home by +10 this afternoon. Hopefully it won't have set her back too far.

For the future, why is it better to feed her up and risk high BG from overeating then skip?

I'm having trouble making decisions for her because I don't really understand the physiology or how she'll react to different circumstances.

Re: 7/1 Angie ambg=110 - what does skipping do?

When you skip, you end up depleting the insulin depot. It also re-starts your cycle count. So, if you were at the 5th cycle at a particular dose, by skipping, you have emptied the depot a bit and your start back at cycle 1 of a dose. The cycles that are counted are consecutive cycles at a dose. So skipping has the biggest impact on the depot. It also means that you lose some momentum if numbers are looking good.

If you give insulin and and are concerned that numbers may drop, the HC food or a larger quantity of food acts as a buffer against numbers dropping if you can't be there to monitor or steer the cycle. It's a safety measure. There is no impact on the depot.
