Cleo has 4 P's in place this morning.

Appy is ok, but the Wellness chicken, turkey, chicken liver is definitely not one of her favorites. She is sitting near her bowl, staring at me. She ate about 1 tsp at first and went out to catio. Came back, jumped up to bowl, and started her staring. I refused to meet her gaze - but she was stronger  I then tried the brushing while you eat treatment. It worked to get another tsp in her, but then she walked to the edge of the counter, looked at the kitty food cabinet, then turned and looked at me. Her expression said it all, Do your job, bean, and open another can! I refused, we had a standoff, and she marched out to the catio.

I am hoping her hunger makes her try some more in a little while. She is still a little fluffy. I keep meaning to ask the vet if her weight is good, or a little high. She is definitely wider than the pictures they have on the wall, showing the kitties from an overhead view.

Happy Caturday LL! Healing and appy vines to all kitties in need! If all goes as planned, I will have my DGS and my DGG for a few hours today. :-D :-D So, we should have some fun ;-)

Re: 4/06 Cleo AMPS 90;+2.5 81

Nice greens for Cleo this morning. Good luck getting her to eat the Wellness. I hope you have a good time with your grandkids.

Re: 4/06 Cleo AMPS 90;+2.5 81

Morning Jane, the cats seem to either love the Wellness flavors or won't eat it. Mags likes the Wellness Turkey, but only the chunkier consistency made in Canada. I wonder who will win this fuds thing today?
Enjoy your time with DGS and DGG. Have a great day. Cleo, eat your fuds says Mags.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90;FF Appy Phosphorus

Cleo ate a little more of the Wellness, after this last test. She also had her treat of FF Appy, when I realized I don't know the phos content. Can't find it on the list. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90;FF Appy Phosphorus

don't know the phosphorus on those but if it's seafood, that can be higher in phosphorus. You might want to contact the company.
I've got phosphorus numbers on my shortcut shopping list

We don't have to eat the lower phosphorus foods but I keep trying.
The friskies special diet turkey and giblets dinner pate is the most commonly used one.

I try to get mine to eat nature's variety instinct as well.

Appy vines for Cleo. Eat yur fuds, Cleo.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90;FF Appy Phosphorus

She likes the FF Appetizer chicken best. I only use it for her test treat. Ingredients listed are: Water, chicken, guar gum, xanthan gum, sodium nitrate to maintain color. Says only to be used as supplemental feeding, along with a balanced diet.

U/A results from 6/15/13

Color: pale yellow
Trans: clear
Spec Gravity: >1.020
Ph: 6.0
Sediment: 1+ cocci (or colli)/0-1 wbc/ squamous cell seen

I posted the above for Marje to take a look at.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90;FF Appy Phosphorus

Don't you mean urinalysis (UA) results? US = ultrasound.

I'm glad Cleo is at least not being too stubborn. I think you gave a great description of "the look." It certainly sounds like Cleo knows how to communicate with a glance.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90; FF Appy Phosphorus

Glad Cleo is eating at least a little of the Wellness, it can take time. There are still times when Tess decides "nope, not gonna eat THAT!"

Are you sure that isn't a typo on the Specific Gravity? Normal range is 1.060 to 1.002.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90; FF Appy Phosphorus

I fixed the us to u/a- thanks Sienne!

And I guess the spec gravity could be a > symbol instead of a 7! thanks Ann!

GDS napping, so all kitties came out for a snack, and a visit to catio.

Re: 7/06 Cleo AMPS 90; FF Appy Phosphorus

My cats hated the Wellness and the Innova. They will eat the EVO tho, and thats what they get thru the day as they free feed. The phosphorus count on EVO is "Cat & Kitten Chx & Turkey" 0.38%. The "95% Chx & Turkey is 0.23% I feed them Merricks "Grammys Pot Pie" in the morning and they LOVE that! Looked for the Ph count on that but couldn't find it. Hope this helps some. Hope you're having a great day with everyone ♥ :-D

Jane

The USG indicates she is not concentrating her urine as she should be. Had she received any fluids prior to that urine sample being taken? Fluids will result in a decreased USG. If not, then the lower USG is an of early renal disease. USG should be above 1.040.

Cleo is not at the point where she needs routine fluids; you want them to be able to compensate on their own for as long as possible. In other words, it's much better for them to drink water to stay hydrated for as long as they can. I would be adding a couple tsp of water to every helping of canned food.

The gold standard binder for cats is, as your vet said, aluminum hydroxide powder. For a phosphorus level of 4-6, the dose would be 25mg/pound per day (please note you would only give phosphorus to a cat at a level of 4 if the level had been higher and you were able to get it down). If phosphorus level is above 6, it's 50 mg/lb/day. I buy my Aluminum Hydroxide Powder at thrivingpets.com but the link will take you there. It's inexpensive, tasteless. Gus gets 1/4 tsp per day so in the morning, we draw up 1/4 tsp and then every time we feed him, we sprinkle it on his food, stir, wait a few minutes, and give it to him. You cannot give it directly to the cat; that's not how it works. It binds the phosphorus in the food. We also add water to every meal Gus gets. The binders can be constipating but we haven't had a problem.

Paws crossed!!!! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I broke down and opened up the Cowboy food for Cleo's second dinner. She did eat that right up, but it is being discontinued, so my mission is to find a few more low carb/phos foods she will eat.

She did not have fluids prior to her UA. I am adding water to her food per Sienne's suggestion from yesterday.

Pam, thanks for the suggestions - more for me to try!

Try the Merricks Grammys Pot Pie, that is really good and only 8% carb, I just couldn't find a ph on it. Is the Cowboy food by Merrick too. I just went on Pet Food Direct and started ordering my food thru them, because I have pretty much bought out my area of Grammys   And I got on the autoship (free shipping) and it was a lot less than the stores. Good luck and glad to help :-D
