Gordy was over 400 for his evening shot due to a furshot, so I dosed him at 2.5U.

I got home from work and did the +5 and he was at 90... great, but steep drop!

Gordy just had a +6 test reading at 66....

He is acting completely normal, but is he still in the good numbers???

I will test in an hour.

He needs to be heading up from 66 as that is borderline too low

He was 59 at +6.5, but I gave him some gravy wet food. His +7 just now was 75.

I think he is doing his upswing.

(Of course this happens after two furshots and before the planned curve tomorrow. no winning.)

On vetsulin I have been advised the following : below 100 : keep eye on cos could keep dropping at +5 and + 6.....below 75: Steer up with low carb 1teaspoon . Best to stay above 75. 68 or below: heading for hypo...give 1 teaspoon bit higher carb snack...test every 15-20 minutes til at 100

I was doing searches to try and find this info! thank you!

His usual nadir is around the 5-6 hour mark, so I am hoping he goes up some more. I'll test again at 7.5. (I am so lucky he is cool with all this.)

I am pretty new to this as well so totally understand where u r coming from. JanetNJ and Kris on the vetsulin forum have helped me greatly and the info I'm sharing comes from them and has helped Elmo and I .

When I saw ur post my heart skipped a beat cos we were in a similar situation recently. You r doing awesome and have Gordy headed in right direction so yeah for u both !!

I wrote this info on a big index card and taped it to inside of kitchen cabinet for future( hope not) reference. Has proven invaluable when I'm in doubt . So so glad he is headed up. Maybe one more teaspoon low carb food before next check.

I am going to take the 911 part out of my title. i think Gordy is going to be fine.

When he dropped so much between the +5 and +6 i definity went into panic mode... which I think was justified.

He is cleaning his face and waiting for his next test. :)

These suggested numbers r for Alpha Trak meter so may need bit of adjustment ...not sure on how that is done

Yeah Gordy :bighug: and good work Momma Cass:bighug:

It looks like you have everything under control. You did great. I would check on him every so often, just to be sure. You can't be too careful.

The "time to act" number on a human meter is below 50....that's where you want to go to a high carb food or a few drops of Karo/honey/syrup....but, that's a huge drop, so you did good by going ahead and carbing him up a little to stop him from dropping further

I'd say it looks like 2.5 is going to be a little too much

Yes, i agree. My vet insisted that I change the dose to 3u. I, obviously, have not reached that. 2u didn't seem to be enough. i think tomorrow is the day I go buy those u100 needles.... and maybe research different vets (or insulin!).

Gordy is at 92 now and I am positively exhausted.

Thanks everyone for the help!!!

Hi Chris ! Sometime in future could u give me to the comps between alpha trak numbers and human meter numbers? Happy Thanksgiving to U and China !!!

There's no direct comparison between the two other than the "low".....the only numbers we directly compare are the 50 on a human meter = 68 on the AlphaTrak

Down at lower numbers, the two meters run closer together, but as the numbers go up, they get further apart

Add into that the fact that ALL meters are allowed to have a 20% variance from the number you'd get on professional lab equipment and you'd just drive yourself crazy trying to make any sense out of it.

Congratulations on getting through this scare calmly (?) and efficiently. Good thing you didn't give Gordy the vet's recommended dose of 3 u!!!! :nailbiting:

A big yes to getting U100 syringes. They can really help.

I just want to say thanks to you guys for your support last night!

I did a curve on G today. Mainly pinks and yellows, which I expected with the dose. I am hoping he even out again. Once I feel he is good, I'll go back to just 2 units until I get the u100 needles.
