I rescue cats on a small independent scale. My own money. I have two small colonies of wild cats (all traped and fixed) that I feed. Every once in a while a tame cat shows up, and after they have stayed for awhile, I try to find them a home. So far I have only had to keep three of them over the years. That makes four that I have. A starving kitten, 6 months maybe, showed up 10 days ago. I took her home, but have to keep her isolated because two of mine have the Calici virus. She is showing all the signs of being diabetic. First was starving, ate and ate, canned and dry, drank lots of water. Her breath smelled of urine the first day. She was all of 3 pounds. She put on weight quickly, then on the fourth day just quit eating. Hardly any water. I tried all different kinds of food, finally got her to eat mashed canned chicken. She barely ate for three days. Lethargic, slept alot. But after starving herself for three days now she is super hungry again. I took her to the vet for shots, but they had an emergency come in and we could not wait that long. When I got home I noticed her breath smelled like nail polish. Then I realized she might be diabetic (I had a sugar cat for 5 years). Now no dry food, and small amounts of canned several times a day. The reason I am writing is, that all my animals (4 cats 2 dogs) are misfits with some kind of medical problem, special food etc. I cannot keep this kitten, and I doubt I can get her adopted if she is diabetic. Can anyone in the Dallas Tx area take a sugar kitten? It may resolve itself since she was skin and bones when I found her. Any help here. At work, may not be able to check back on this site very soon.
