Good Morning LL! ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) Thank you Elsa! Sorry to be AWOL for the weekend, John was in LA for a model RR show and I have been on an organizational frenzy. Tess seems to be feeling better, we had a whack-a-thon through the door w/ Emma on Saturday, her appy is off a little though. I think because of the ABs, but no vomiting. She seems to be liking the Wellness so no raw for a few days. I have no idea where that black number came from yesterday! It couldn't have been a bad shot, because she was coming down earlier. I can't wait for the 10 days of ABs to be over! The no food for 2 hours before and 1 hour after is wrecking havoc w/ our schedule.

Marje, I had already used the spare battery for the caliper. (Forgot to turn it off once! ) I finally found one at Target, because a very helpful young clerk (with very good eyes!) found the equivalent size chart down in the corner, under the ridge of the blister pack! I had a hard time reading it even when I got home and used my magnifying visor! None of the five places I checked had those size charts like they used to have posted. The Energizer battery I found is now called 357/303. I'm keeping that card w/ the caliper!

WCR All 5 Ps, Clean Plate Club, Vines to all the kittehs in need of them and hugs to all their beans.

Re: 6/9 Tess AMPS~217 +3~205

The battery confusion got me checking on the web ………
About LR44
LR44 is an alkaline 1.5 V battery. The most common equivalent batteries are:
  • AG13
    L1154
    LR1154
    157
Silver Oxide Equivalent Batteries
LR44 can be also be replaced with a silver oxide battery. The most common silver oxide equivalents are:
  • SR44
    SR44SW
    303
    357

Label Confusion
Many generic packages will list both AG13 and 357 on the label, which are different battery chemistries. Generally, if it lists any alkaline name, then the batteries are alkaline and not silver oxide.

Comparing Equivalent Batteries in Detail
So now you know the equivalent names. Even though the size is the same, they may not be exactly alike. Prices can range among equivalent batteries and knowing how to compare specifications will make you better informed for choosing one.

These days, brand name batteries are mainly selling silver oxide equivalents. So if you are buying from a big box retailer, you will only probably find 357 or 303 Energizer or Duracell batteries. But with the price of silver going up, they are getting more expensive all the time. Alkaline LR44 batteries are cheaper, but which one should you use?

  • Alkaline Equivalent
    • Cheap
      Voltage decreases with battery life
      Shorter life

    Silver Oxide Equivalent
    • Expensive
      Maintains voltage with use
      Longer life
As you can see, the main differences are the price, life, and voltage. So if you are just using the battery for some toys, blinking lights, or a calculator, an alkaline might suit you better. Some electronics which require a certain voltage to operate such as a digital caliper, will fare better with a silver oxide battery.

I don't believe it actually mentioned the digital caliper!

Re: 6/9 Tess AMPS~217 +3~205

I've missed you! I was AWOL as well so I missed that black number. What the heck Tess? Enough of that. Healing vines for Tess. Those ABs mess with so many things. Have a great day Ann!

Re: 6/9 Tess AMPS~217 +3~205

Very interesting about the caliper battery. Do they WORK to make it confusing? :-x We leave the caliper at the same measurement when the dose is the same. When I am drawing up the dose, I turn on the caliper, check the value, then immediately turn it off. Ours turns off automatically after a while. So if you forgot to turn yours off, the battery was probably near the end of its life anyway. Tess, I am encouraging Zener to join you in your very nice cycle. Those ABs are hard on a kitty. Hope the appy picks up. Ann, good for you on your organizational frenzy!

Re: 6/9 Tess AMPS~217 +3~205 +7~57

And here we go!

I actually only turn the caliper on occasionally to double check, I just set it very gently back in it's case every time so it can't get bumped. I only left it turned on once and killed the first battery. This was the second one that just died and I never forgot to turn it off. The silver chloride batteries supposed to have a longer life, so that's good.

Great sliding today Tess! Keep on surfing now.

So was that a friendly whack-a-thon with Emma? Maybe getting used to each other? Or rather Tess starting to accept Emma.

Interesting saga on the calipers. Fortunately the kind I use take a CR2032 battery which are much more common/easy to find.

We do row when the jellies are out - they are great to watch. The moon jellies are pretty harmless and in August we can sometimes row over hundreds of them swarming. The one I saw today was about 2 inches across. The lion's mane jellies are a different story. Not so common, large and orange but they sting so we stay away from them.

Hi Ann,
I replaced mine with an EPX 76 from Radio Shack. Silver oxide, Works fine.

Tess is the LagoonMeisterin tonight. Rusty wishes he was in the lagoon, but he's still up on the shore. Maybe later. He did say something about a date with Tess.

Glad to near that Tess is not having tummy upset from the ABs. I'm sure you are counting the days until you are through with them.

Have a fine evening,

Ella & Rusty
