? 6/9 Darcy What to do tonight?

As some of you have already noticed. When I brought Darcy home tonight he was at 40! I had a bad feeling about this as I found out from some handwritten notes that Amy the vet tech emailed to me around 1:30 this afternoon that his BG was 57 and she gave him some dextrose. Now that was pretty early in the cycle. So who knows what happened to him after that. All I know is that I pulled him out of his carrier to test BG and got a lovely 40. Karo syrup right away. Got him up to 61 and he cruised in the 60s for a while and now is up to 73.

What should I do now. I did not shoot when he was at 40. I chose to just monitor him and see where he was going. I don't want him up to 444 like he was apparently at the vet last night. They told me he was 444 when I asked what his BG was. The tech sent me a text asking how to use the insulin pen and how many units to give. When she said 444, I said just give him his full dose (7 units). That 444 had been taken at 4 a.m. though, which was at least 2 hours prior to the time that I asked her what his BG was. It was really much less than that when I asked because when I picked him up this morning to take him to the regular vet I asked them to check it for me and it was 249 (about an hour after they had given him the 7 units). Anyway, he has survived them so far.

What to give tonight? It's pretty late now -- almost 11 p.m. which is about 4-5 hours after his normal shot time.

Im definitely not experienced in this, but What about a half dose so he at least gets something and then you can get him back into regular testing and his normal schedules tomorrow? How is he doing otherwise? Big hugs!

Thanks, Tracy! I'm thinking about doing this. At least he has something so his depot isn't drained so badly.

For what it's worth (my completely inexperienced opinion!) that sounds like a good plan to me.

Whatever you decide, you are dealing with the fallout after the hospital treatment. Little D has been through a lot. R then the 444 then the 57 then the dextrose which didn't seem to do the trick, then they just handed him over. Hopefully the constipation is resolved though, and he will have an appetite. Now you have L roulette - presumably there is going to be a big bounce following that 40 it's just a question of when, so you won't want to skip. Good luck.:bighug:

Hi Suzanne so glad Darcy is home with you now, so they got him to poop?
I hope everything goes smoothly now. ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Poor little guy has been thru enough ♥

:facepalm:Can't believe he was at 40 when you brought him home. Nice catch.
I hope Darcy is feeling better, not in any pain, and hopefully pooping more normally now. Thinking of both of you.
