Hi everyone, I'm a bit scared because this morning after the shot I found some blood in the syringe. What does it mean? Is there any danger? I shot in the scruff, maybe a little too low in the back.

ETA:
Fortunately DH was at home at +10. I'd never thought that she could go so low from that pink at am +1. I still didn't figure out when Cleo's nadir is. Sometimes at +4, today at +10. I'm really worried about this.
Please, give me some advices to make Cleo safe.

I've never had this happen but I've read others have. Maybe you got a little deep rather than sub-q. I know people that have had that happen giving fluids

Thank you for your answer Elise. Can this make the Lantus more active, I mean like if I gave a higher dose?

Sometimes you can nick a little capillary on the way in or out of the skin. I've done that occasionally. It could mean faster action, but I've not seen that happen.

Thank you to both. Now I feel better :). I was very scared when I saw the blood:nailbiting:.
Have a good night!

Can you always get the mid cycle tests? That huge drop into green from +5.5 to +7.5 tells me the bounce is breaking and she had lots of downward momentum. If you see a big drop like that mid cycle, I'd leave out lots of food for her in the autofeeder, maybe even some higher carb food - especially if you can't come home later in the cycle.

As Wendy is pointing out, I'd also look at the 108 point drop between the 187 and the 79 today - that's in 2 hrs. I'd ask myself "if she continues dropping at that rate, where will she be in an hour?" Based upon my answer to that, I'd have tested sooner than 3 hrs.

Cats don't drop at an even rate per hour, but you can get an idea about how fast things are moving from looking at the interval from the last test to the current test. Maybe that 108 point drop was very steady and the same per minute - so it would've been 54 points in each of those 2 hours. Or maybe it was 70 in the first hour and 38 in the next hour, but either way, it would've said to me that she was dropping quickly & i'd want to recheck in 30 minutes after the 79.

The reason you're having trouble figuring out her nadir is because a bounce cycle overrides the normal Lantus curve. It looks to m in a normal, non-bounce cycle, her nadir is around +4 much of the time. But when there is a bounce and it's clearing, it's completely unrelated to the normal cycle.

The good thing is that you did catch her and bring her up - so well done Delia!

Usually dh takes the mid cycle test at +6, when he is home for lunch. Today I told him to test again before he leave to work, but he usually doesn't take it.
Unfortunately he wouldn't have been able to test in 30 minutes after the 79 because he had to go to work. It seemed to me a good number, not a dangerous one :(

Taken in isolation, a 79 is a safe number. However, context is critical. The context here is that there was a substantial drop between +5.5 and +7.5.That's telling me that there's still some momentum. You don't know whether numbers are going to head up or continue back down. In this case, numbers were still heading down. It's why we encourage people to get another test. At the very least, leaving out HC if you can't be sure which direction numbers are going might have been a reasonable precaution.

As for nadir, it can change. Gabby is typically an early nadir kitty (usually around +3, give or take). And then there are all of the other times when her nadir is much later in the cycle. If you are hoping for Cleo being predictable, you may be very frustrated!
