Good morning everyone! Hugs to all the cats.

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=119942

We are in flat yellow land after some bouncing and probably some NDW. At least we're not seeing red! This *may* be wishful thinking, but I think Billie is gaining a little weight! I don't feel as much of her spine as I felt a few weeks ago, and I think she feels a little heavier when I pick her up. This is encouraging, because she was underweight at 8 lbs when she was diagnosed, after losing almost 2 lbs in a month. She has always weighed around 10 lbs. I don't have a scale at home to confirm what I'm feeling, but I can get one.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

that is fantastic news! it always helps to hear how a cat is doing - they are more than their numbers!

Some people use baby scales at home. Some vets will also let you stop by and just ask to borrow the scales to weigh her.

I remember being so glad when I was no longer seeing red frequently. Paws crossed Billie will really start working this dose and show you some lower numbers soon.

I found it useful to weigh Neko at least once a month to keep track of how her weight was doing when we were first diagnosed. It took me a while to figure out what were the right amount of calories to feed her. With Neko being an acrocat I didn't have to worry so much about losing weight (although she did lose a tiny bit), but it was more to make sure she didn't gain too much back. Maybe you can borrow a scale once in a while?

Thank you Julie and Wendy!! I read somewhere that you can weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding your cat and subtract your weight, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I'm going to see if I know anyone with a baby scale that I can borrow, because I'd love to see if she is actually gaining some weight back.

I could also take a trip to the vet. Speaking of the vet, Billie is technically due for a curve there, but I'm not sure how necessary/practical that is. I know that she will get stressed out so her numbers will probably go up, and I could easily do a curve at home on a day off. I'm curious to know what other people do in that situation.

I talked to our vet about a week ago to update her on our home testing and Billie's numbers. She seemed pretty neutral about everything - she doesn't think home testing is necessary, but she also didn't discourage me, so maybe she'd be open to me doing a curve at home and sharing the results with her.

I don't think any of us take the cat to the vet for a curve anymore. Stress can impact the numbers as you say. And what if it's a day the cat is bouncing - data isn't very useful then. It's much more interesting to just print off and share the spreadsheet.

Good to see those blues tonight!

Thanks Wendy! That makes sense. I'm really happy to see blue and not too drastic of a +2 drop!! So far, so good! I think I will get a +3 to make sure she doesn't have anything crazy planned, then call it bed time.

i used to print out punkin's ss and take it with me, and the vet would look at it, but she basically just stopped talking to me about dose. when i moved to her from our previous vet, i was already here and knew mostly what i was doing. a good vet will just let you handle the dosing adjustments and help you with whatever you ask on other needs.

Thanks Julie! I'll give that a try. I'll call her later this week and see if she's open to it. I'm loving Billie's trend tonight! I hope everyone gets some nice sleep.
