Last night Olive stayed at 58 for quite some time. I did not boost her as her 1 AM feeding was right at the 2nd test. Although she didn't eat it until later. So at the 7 hr mark she was still 58, not dropping I felt it was safe to go to bed until +9 since Tux would wake me I could test then. Well DH got up for Tux so missed test opportunity. Olive did not eat +8 but DH said Olive was eating her +6 at that time.

The dosecrease might be kicking in today, so tonight could be interesting.

Here's hoping for some green today. Being today is partly cloudy I hope to do some more gardening. +2 test coming up soon.

The SS says you're looking a bit sleep deprived the last few days. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Sending extra vines and prayers for your DH and that he feels better soon.

Yep, but good data that I am beginning to understand some. I'll probably crash Sunday as everything here is slow. Then another busy week with Olive and DH appts. Tomorrow Olive will get a break as it's visiting and laundry day at Dad's.

I hope you get some rest Paula, you are such a busy gal and take good care of those around you. Maybe a bit of gardening will east the stress, and maybe sneak in a nap?

So just got a call from my vet. Unexpected to say the least. As posted earlier he was having an endocrinologist review Olive's tests.

Well guess what, this endocrinologist who has more letters after his name than the alphabet (stated by vet) in London and an US internist agree with me that she is ACRO. YEAH they agree and not yeah she has it. And that it was just caught early, probably it's just starting to grow. Another however, these two doctors do not agree with cabergoline. They said another one that starts with Pasteride something like that would be better if can't do the SRT. Another however, it's still the abdominal tumor they really are concerned with. And tells me "write this down, diet any food that is less than 7% based on calories. Some FF, Proplan, and the Verus all have some" go figure right. And he has to get the digital films of US and send it to them so they can look at the abdominal tumor. The specialists love the ss and actually think she is really doing well glucose wise considering. THANK YOU EVERYONE HERE FOR GETTING US THIS FAR. We are to keep doing what we are doing. I have to send the ss link to my vet as he said the endocrinologist wants to keep following. I then mentioned the dental and is perfectly fine with this specialist. I said I didn't want him mad at me or think I was overstepping. He laughed and said no your making me more informed. I said it's just I consider her a high risk kitty and just want more info before doing a dental. He said it's the anesthesia being a heart kitty that has him more concerned.

This is why I love him so. You might think he isn't listening or doesn't care but behind the scenes he is doing his due diligence. Just got to push a little bit and be patient (not my strong trait). He said he will be out office next week so I might not hear from. If I have a serious problem but not an emergency his office has been instructed to call him.

@Doodles & Karen maybe now I will get some of that sleep.

Definitely not exciting about the diagnosis, but I am so glad they finally got the diagnosis cleared up! I'm surprised they're so against cabergoline! Didn't we have an acro kitty on it that went OTJ?

I believe so. This is a start at least he now admits to her having it. And willing to start something (I have to look this drug up). I'm okay with that and eventually will get him on board with cabergoline if this other one isn't helping. I just have to keep nudging.

I am sorry the Olive has one more issue to deal with but she has a great kitty Mom in you. Glad that you have the information though.

So sorry that it's acro, but happy that you finally have a definitive diagnosis, and a plan of action going forward! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Interesting news. We don't know if the acro is "caught early". No way of knowing that cause you don't know how long she's been diabetic. Neko showed a sign of acro 6 months before her diabetes diagnosis (as I later figured out), and didn't get her acro diagnosis until 6 months after that. Did they say why they thought it was "caught early". Tumour size has no correlation to the IGF-1 number.

They said another one that starts with Pasteride something like that would be better if can't do the SRT.
Are you made of money? This post by MJW gives a recent breakdown of costs of pasireotide (Signifor by Novartis). Might be able to get by with a $1000 a month in costs of the daily drug. The preferred choice/better chance for remission or results is actually Signifor LAR (long acting), which is a once a month drug. MJW priced that out at over $7000 a month! The daily drug was slightly cheaper in Canada, but even 3 years ago my vet couldn't get pricing for Signifor LAR - it was too new. SRT at Washington is considerably cheaper. Cabergoline doesn't have as good a results as SRT/surgery/pasireotide, but is way cheaper and still gives some relief. It's a trade off.

I don't know why they say caught early. I can take a pretty good guess though. I also don't know if it's my vet saying it or the endocrinologist saying it.

I had no idea the pasireotide costs that much. And I know my vet doesn't either. So that won't be an option. I see why the endocrinologist and IM don't think cabergoline is effective when the other options are quite effective. Maybe when vet finds out the price he will cabergoline is a good option.

We have yet to see someone here try it. I even communicated with the lead acro researcher at North Carolina State U, and she hadn't been able to convince anyone to try it either. :p The folks at Royal Veterinary College were only able to do their trial with pasireotide donated by Novartis. Not sure they've had anyone actually pay for the drug either. I think there has been a case of one kitty going OTJ after just two months of the Signifor LAR, so it's a short term investment. But even at 2 months, it's more costly than the surgery.
