Nice light blue to start off the day. Papa bean's off to work, Momma bean just got off work and is heading to bed. I've got the autofeeder set in case the alarm clock is but a passing thought at +2 and +4. Hopefully I'll wake up and test around there, but no promises... I'm tiiiiiiired.

Re: 6/7 Vesta AMPS~117 +4.3~46

Well ain't at lovely :) Number one, guess I at least woke up for the alarm this time. Number two, guess I'm not going back to sleep for a while.

I have a feeling a lot of it was from Vesta not eating most of the morning. She ate most of her 1/2can breakfast at amps time, but I just noticed she didn't touch any of the +2 or +4 timed feeder food. I've noticed this before- when I'm on graveyard shifts, she'll sleep with me during the day, and not get up to eat. Flattering, yes, BG-safe, no. Vesta at least knew she was hungry though, because after I gave her 1tsp HC, she gobbled up most of the other food left in the auto's too :) I expect a nice healthy spike shortly...

I noticed your comment from yesterday's condo Sienne.... I had worked another night shift so I was sleeping in the am, and Scott had gone out to breakfast with a friend. That's why we didn't get a +4. Trust me, had I been the one to get the +2, there would have been a +3.... +4..... etc. If it helps with dosing suggestions... I can be home for the next 44 hours strait. No work again until Wed am. Honestly though, as it is, she's only getting one drop of insulin per shot...

As I suspected. What a difference actually eating makes! Now I'm regretting even that small amount of HC, but it is what it is.

By the way... heading back to bed. Will wake up for a +7. Probably

Hi Vesta great surf again today

Thanks Do Lou! I am a southern CA girl you know, surfin's in my blood!

Mmmmm.... and I just snacked on a bit of leftover FF LC from earlier. When bean mixes it up with some water, it's delish!

My momma bean's seems frazzled though... she's not sure what to shoot me with tonight (in 3.5hrs). I keep trying to tell her Mr. P's working just fine, but she seems to think that I should try and give it a little support for as long as possible. Could someone straighten her out, purrrrrlease?

Barring any outside input, I'll still shoot her one drop at PMPS in 2 hours.

Hi Jamie,

When you wake up tonight ... :-D could you change your subject line to say... GUM TRIAL? to see what people are thinking. I think Vesta may be ready for a pancreas test... because really.... fat0 is diddly squat and one up from waving the insulin under Vesta's nose. I'm pretty sure there is pancreas action.

If you change your post, let's see what kind of feedback you'll get.

Thanks, Helene.

Shot time is 7pm pacific, about 45 minutes or so.

Re: 6/7 Vesta AMPS~117 +4.3~46 +5~84 +8~69 +10~64 Gum trial??

Jamie, have we talked about feeding Vesta a snack at about PM +9? I would like to see her AMPS numbers come down before a trial, if possible. If she has a functioning pancreas, that snack should help bring the AMPS down to green.

Since she is dropping early in the cycle, you might also want to experiment with the timing/quantity of those snacks. Put more in the first 2-3 hours and maybe none or less at +4, then a +9 snack in both cycles.

AND.... it's perfectly fine for Vesta to surf the 40's on 0.1 unit. She won't hypo on that dose. Next time you see a number in the 40's, try a low carb snack instead of high carb. Test in 30 minutes to see what happened. I bet you'll find that she is surfing or rising just from a low carb snack. Once you know that low carb can keep her from dropping, then you'll be confident letting her surf 40's or 50's, because you'll know that she can take care of herself with the food she already has access to. Yes, 50's are more comfortable than 40's for sure! So if you give a little LC and that bumps her to 50's to surf, that's perfect.

We'll work on that this week. Getting a snack into her at pmps+9 is going to be tough- if she's lounging in bed with us, she'll rarely get up to eat. Example, today- she ended up in the 40s while sleeping off my graveyard shift with me. But, we'll try setting a +9 alarm and taking her to the food, if it'll help.

I'll also adjust the timing of her snacks to +1 and +2 instead of +2 and +4.

The longer Vesta is being assisted by insulin, the longer her pancreas has to heal to be strong. Libby's idea of food manipulation is brilliant!

Very exciting condo! I hope the food manipulation does the trick and brings the AMPS down to green to match the rest of the beautiful numbers. You guys are doing great and the trial will start soon I'm sure.

What about the auto feeder times?
If you have the 5-section one, you can always set the times for just the snack times. Put the +1 +2 +3 and maybe +9 and then you can just feed when either of you are home. If you set the times for the 5 most inconvenient times, that auto feeder becomes priceless.

We do have an autofeeder- Vesta just won't get up and go to it unless she's either super hungry or she's already downstairs and notices it. When she's in bed with us, I guarantee it won't happen.
