sailing in the green this morning!!

i was talking to an old friend lastnight (haven't talked with her in a long time!). she just had to put her cat down because of cancer  she said he also had diabetes in the past but went into remission on lantus. however, he went as low as 32 and was non-responsive and needed emergency treatment! made me realize how lucky we were with timber. he went down to 39 a couple times and showed no signs of anything going on!

anyways, i hope everyone has a great day! :-D :-D :-D

Day 4 on OTJ trial for Timber. We are just counting the days 'til OTJ.

4 trees in honor of Timber's name, and palm trees on the beach because that is where Timber will be soon, at the beach at the lagoon.

Re: 6/7 Timber OTJ Trial DAY 4 AMBG 91; PMBG 185

timber jumped up to 185 tonight!! i'm hoping it's a fluke???

If you haven't fed, you can do another test to confirm. Any chance that he ate just before the test? Feed him and test in 3 hours. Paws crossed he brings himself back down.

Like Liz was suggesting, that could have been a bad test or bad strip. If not, re-test in a few hours and see if having give Timber dinner kicks his pancreas into gear and he pulls his numbers down on his own.

turns out timber had an absessed anal gland. took him to the vet at midnight because i was afraid it would rupture by tomorrow (just happened to him in january- very unpleasant). they got it just in time and were able to express it without needing to go more invasive. but said it's a good thing i didn't wait. so, now he's on 2 weeks of antibiotics and a few days of pain meds. poor timber!!!

at any rate, i'm wondering if this is why his blood sugar rose tonight. stress and pain? i'll see what tomorrow looks like i guess. i don't want to poke his ear right now, he's had a very rough night

When Gobbles was on his OTJ trial, and showed a blue number at AMBG or PMBG, I was instructed by an Advisor (can't remember who) to test him (his AM or PM test) for his test, feed immediately, then put the food up for 3 hours. If his number went green after the 3 hours, it meant his pancreas is working.

Ouchie! I bet Timber is really relieved right now, even if you aren't! Hopefully the spike was just stress and some pain.

The infection was probably the major reason for the increase in numbers but the pain probably contributed as well.

Good catch on your part. Poor kitty!
