Fingers and paws crossed here that you are right about settling in to this dose. One drop more or less and he just responds too much. Mr. Unpredictable becomes yo-yo!!

I have a class at 10 so would have to leave by 9:45 and would be back by 11:30. I'll see how he tests at 9. I can cancel my bike up to 35 minutes before and still decide to go and take a vacant bike as this class won't be full.

My mom is not doing well. She wouldn't get dressed yesterday. It's hard to say if she really doesn't feel well or is depressed. So hard. Thanks for asking Julie.

Hoping Max settles in so you can get out to your class.
Sorry to hear that your Mom is not doing well, it`s such a worry for you. Prayers that she is feeling better soon.

Thanks. It looks like he will be fine. I fed him some 9% mixed in with his 4%. He ate some and might go back to finish the rest before I leave. He doesn't look like he will dive.

Oh Max. An itty bitty little drop or less of juice and you go all wild and crazy...We'd prefer staid and boring.

Glad you'll get to class. (Thank you Max.) Vines and more for your DM and for you Elise. So hard.

Marilyn and Polly

Hey Max, come on down to the lagoon will ya? Chi Chi misses you there:D. Paws crossed on the reduction, and vines for your mom Elise.

Thanks Laura Julie, Lori and Marikyn.

So I truly think Max will be diabetic for the rest of his life and I've accepted that. If my goal is to protect his kidneys as best I can and help him have as good a QOL as possible, would the last few cycles achieve that? His nadir is okay but he does spend several hours each cycle between 130-190 or there abouts.

Growling kitty at last test. I woke him up like always but I didn't startle him. this is the third time it's happened throughout this journey but it's still scary.:banghead::cat:

Hi Elise,
As long as Max stays pretty much below the renal threshold (which, I believe, is around 220), I think his kidneys will be fine. He spends good time in the blues and greens. We would all like to see our kitties go OTJ, and there have been some successes with kitties who have been on insulin for years, but it is good to keep a realistic picture of things! One important lesson I have learned over the last 9 years with 2 diabetic cats is that you can't compare today with last month, last year, etc. because diabetes is always changing and always unpredictable. You have to accept where your are today and carry on.:)

I hope your mom will see some improvement in her condition. I hope you got to your spin class today.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for the prayers for my mom Steve, Carla, and Ella. Thanks for answering my question Ella.

OK now Max...we know what you kitties are up to....driving your beans to the loony bin!! Well, it's not going to work!!

Much.....LOL

He sure is trying. He didn't eat until an hour and 45 minutes after his shot. There was a time when all blue and green looked good to me. No idea why he's off today nor why he growled at me this afternoon. Great picture Chris.

That pic sure is familiar, lol! Lulu growls sometimes when I give her a shot while she`s eating....grrr...nom,nom,nom,grrr...
How is your Mom feeling today, Elise?

My understanding is that the # where kidneys can't cope with the glucose and it begins to spill over into the urine (renal threshold) can vary tremendously from cat to cat. I've heard around 200-250, but i've also heard stories of people testing their cats and finding that it might be as low as 145/150 or so.

I would think the best way to figure that out for Max would be to test his urine when he's high and see if there is glucose in it. You use those little sticks like for the ketones, but i'm not sure exactly what the glucose ones are called. Remember that glucose shows up in urine later than it does in blood, so if you saw a 190 blood test, i'd think the urine test a few hours later would maybe be one to compare to.

Thanks Julie. I was hoping as long as his BG was mostly under 200 that would be good enough. Oh well.

I don't know what to tell you, but I do know that you are stressed and worried and hurting right now. I wish I could do or say something to help. My question is, how is Max acting? Is he uncomfortable? I know he growled at you, but Cinco does that when I wake him to test. Even though I don't startle him, he's still not completely awake. Try not to let it upset you too much. I guess my point is, Max's quality of life is what's really important here. Stressing over every little thing doesn't help him or you. I don't mean to lecture you. I just worry about you and how hard this is on you, on top of what's happening with your DM. Please take a few minutes to just love on Max and remember why you are doing this. Hang in there!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
