Morning All,

What a very rude awakening I had this morning, someone jumped on the bed, pawed at my face, there was major digging with Leo trying to get under the blankets, head butting my cheeks, major yelling too! Get up get up get up Mom!!!! Wow he really wanted his breffis. Of course I was so sleepy I didn't budge. I'm really hooked on watching Rescue Me on Netflix, I'm addicted and these 6 am mornings are killing me, I'm watching these shows until 2 in the morning. So when the alarm finally went off there was even more yelling to get breffis underway, I was surprised Leo had left his midnight snack in his dish. He really doesn't like the FF chicken pate. But breffis is finished and we are out on the deck watching 2 police cars and an ambulance at a house beside my building, I hope everything is ok and no one is too badly hurt.

I'm going btb for a few more hours of shuteye, everyone have a great Tuesday!

Enjoy the btb! Sounds like you had your own fire drill this morning!! Leo was in no mood to wait and you were not moving fast enough. I have definitely had those mornings. Have a great day Tracy!

Woo! Look at that 225, and those greens two days in a row! Could it be that Leo's liver is finally catching on! I hope so!

Btb after feeding Bandit is the story of my life, even on work days :-) I fed him this morning and passed out on the couch for a good 45 minutes before I finally got up and dragged myself to work. My late night problem is currently Netflix and Battlestar Galactica. :-D

wish i had an excuse for staying up late - i just do it. watch the news, or whatever is following it . . . every morning i resolve i will go to bed earlier, but .. .

glad you're getting to go back to bed. love the comment on the fire drill - it does sound like that! have a nice morning.

Leo's numbers have been absolutely spectacular lately!!! This is so awesome. Champ loves the FF chicken. He likes all of them when the can is first opened and they haven't been refrigerated yet. There are certain ones he's doesn't care for too much after they've been in the refrigerator, but he always ends up eating it!! He loves the seafood ones, of course, but I don't give those to him every day cuz I heard they aren't the best thing for male cats because it can cause urinary problems. Don't know if this is true or would happen to Champ, but no sense taking a risk.

Yeah Leo is starting to get very picky, I fed him FF turkey and giblets, chicken feast and Friskies chicken dinner and he's starting to turn his nose up at it, I pick it up and pretend to do something to it, really just mix it up again and put it back down and he falls for it every time, he eats a few bites then walks away. The only chicken he likes now is the elegant medley chicken but it's got 10% carbs in it and I want to get away from it. He also likes the seafood feast, cod, sole and shrimp and salmon flavors but I've heard the same thing about urinary problems so I try to stay away from it. Might be time to head to petsmart to look for some new turkey and chicken flavors. Maybe whiskas? Or there must be some 9-lives that's good for him to eat too?

On the other hand, I twisted and shouted and lubricated this morning and NO BUBBLES!

i wish i could say d'art has a refined french pallet, he does not.

he'll eat anything.

chicken, beef, turkey, seafood, pizza, tacos, pizza, pizza, ceral milk, pizza (he was a kitchen felon pre fd).

he would really appreciate it if ff came out with a pizza flavor.

have you tried instinct lamb or evo beef or duck? when we first switched from dry to wet those were winners.

now we use instinct beef and chicken and ff classic beef, chicken, turkey, and occasionally seafood because he loves it and it's a treat- it makes his butt wiggle with joy.

look at those lovely yellows, go leo!

Willy is anything but a picky eater... I do wish he was a little more discriminatory in his choices sometimes. I mean McDonalds? Really guy? I gave my guys some Evo beef today mixed in with their FF. New foods are hit OR miss with my crew. Either they love the brand (the whole brand) or they hate the brand. Evo was a winner! It's kinda gross looking though, but Innova is the same way (which is what my dog is HOOKED on atm, he doesn't even care about his past favorites).

FF pizza flavor?!?! Really? Sounds like Frenchie and Bandit are fellow pizza lovers.

I've tried the EVO and it looked disgusting and apparently tasted disgusting to Leo as well. He wouldn't even try it, same with Merrick. I've almost run out of choices. I just came back from Petsmart and bought Leo some Whiskas Pate Beef & Pate Chicken to try. For some reason we don't have too many flavors of cat food here with beef in it. So we'll give it a whirl, otherwise he's gonna stick to the seafood stuff, urinary problems or not.

Tracy, the nature's variety instinct Lamb and Rabbit flavors are also good ones...they were faves of Gabby's for a while when I was going through every type of food in the store. Also Merrick's surf n turf is pretty much the same as the cowboy cookout except it has some seafood in it, but it'd be better for him than straight up seafood...maybe he'll go for that? I can't remember what EVO flavors you tried. Did you try the EVO 95% varieties at all? Bandit wasn't gung ho for the regular EVO but he loves the 95% kinds.

Hey Julia,

I tried Merricks Surf and Turf, Southern Delight? And Thanksgiving Day Dinner all 2 paws down. Critters didnt have cowboy cookout. I tried EVO, 3 different kinds, the only 3 kinds Critters had and they were 2 paws down as well. I think they were beef, venison and rabbit. I saw some little cans at Petsmart, Natural? Something same size cans as FF but I didn't have my Janet and binky list with me so I didn't buy any. I've gotta go back to stock up for when Leo goes to his grandparents on Friday so I'll look then. They also have Sophisticat there too, has anyone tried it?

Was it the blue wilderness grain free? I also fed that to Gabby for a bit and it was liked for a while (we went through a LOT of different foods). I know PetSmart carries it. It's the ones listed second on their list under the spa select: http://www.bluebuffalo.com/canned-cat-food

EVO doesn't make 95% rabbit or lamb, so that might be something to try with the Nature's Variety.

Is there a store called "Pet Planet" near you? I did a search for Nature's Variety instinct near you and that's what comes up.

getting some lovely numbers today!

i know he loves hunting mice, and i'm probably going to get exiled to the crazy tree shortly- but what tastes like mouse? personally i don't really know, but i think it might be worth an internet search...

also what about wellness core?

has there been a food he considers so-so? what we did sometimes is mix ff with another food to entice him into eating it, so he can't pick out the ff.

Goodness you have a tough one on your hands with the food issues.. I do believe i could set any thing in front of Tommy and he would eat it. I hope you don't break the bank trying to find something the cutie pie will eat. I stick with FF Classic Chicken Feast. He enjoys it and it doesn't mess with his BG's..
Leo sure has some pretty numbers today for him momma.. What ever happened with next door drama this morning?

:lol: I think the bank was broke the day Leo was dx, good thing his mommy has a good job and he's got pretty good insurance!! :lol: on the what tastes like mouse comment Lauren! Funny, but worth a googling!

We tried wellness too, actually i bought a few cans and brought them to my parents for Leo to try. I asked my mom how it went and she said he didn't eat it. I think i bought turkey and salmon and 2 other cans? Leo has always been a FF man, even all throughout the years i've had him, with the crunchies it was even worse i had bags and bags of different dry food for him to try. Maybe i should try to buy some FortiFlora? Sprinkle some on just to entice him.....

Blue wilderness? I'll take a look when i go back, i'll bring my list and try out a bunch of different brands for him to try. Pet Planet i have never heard of, but Saskatoon is a big city.

The next door drama i have no idea what happened, i tried waiting until they brought somebody out (i'm soooo nosy) but i was just too tired, but when i finally rolled out of bed at 9 there was a professional carpet cleaning crew there already :shock: so it can't be good, whatever happened. I'm thinking lots of blood perhaps?

PS Lowest PMBG YET!!! Can i get a WOOT WOOT?!?!

Iti's kinda comforting to know I'm not the only one with finicky eaters! Trixie is pretty easy, but not as easy as she used to be. The rest of my herd...incredibly stubborn! I think I've managed to find the 6 most non-stereotypical cats out there...

WOOT WOOT for that PMPS!!!

Hi all you food fanciers! I think you are doing too much variety. The kitties are confused!!! Try restricting the choice to 2 or 3 foods and see what happens. You must have an awful lot of partly opened cans around, and/or you must throw out a lot of food.

Mouse flavor (or raw mouse, in a can) might be the best option. Some pet food company should pick up on that. But they'd have to call it something other than "mouse" so that people would buy it. Leo is lucky and talented: he can catch his own mice!!

Bandit gets 4 types of food, 2 Merricks and 2 EVO 95%, and I have no problems. I feed the different brands half and half because EVO is higher in fat, and the Merricks lower, so they even each other out. He's pretty much a garbage disposal anyway. I had to go through a lot of different foods in the past because my other cat, Gabby, had stomach cancer and became extremely picky with food and stopped eating foods she liked. She wasn't like that before the cancer; she had 2 flavors of PetGaurd that she liked just fine for years. But I had to keep her eating, so we had to experiment with new foods every other week or so. Bandit got the low carb rejects mixed with his food, but sometimes I had to throw some of the higher carb stuff out. I would do it all over again, though, because i was able to keep her eating about 4 months longer than the vet thought she would.

But because of this, we tried a lot of different foods, and I noted what ones were the favorites. Obviously, it's not good to change a cat's diet if you can avoid it but sometimes you have to experiment to find food she'll eat in the first place.

Split the difference and test in 20 min. It really depends on your cat, how well he responds to food, how quickly he drops, etc.

So, food issues...

Gabby and Gizmo get only poultry varieties of food. Fishy flavors can cause plumbing problems in male cats who, apparently, have a design flaw in the plumbing dept. Further, too much fish can cause a heavy metal build up which is not good.

Initially, Gabby refused to eat Wellness. Both she and Gizmo thought I was poisoning them with Wellness Core or EVO 95%. They would begrudgingly eat regular Wellness. They were very happy with FF (aka "kitty crack" according to my vet). For a while, I was feeding them raw. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I gave them regular Wellness (chicken or turkey) on a trial basis and they decided it was edible. I also just sampled Blue Buffalo Wilderness and Merrick Before the Grain. I did some additional research on the Blue Buffalo and it's higher in fat. The Before the Grain Turkey is low is just about everything.

Damn, i must have been in the process of testing Leo when you sent that last message. Oh well, i found out he responds quickly to 5%!

Yeah food issues, he just doesn't like FF turkey or chicken UNLESS it has gravy in it, then its his all time absolute fave!

Hmmmm blue buffalo? I wonder if we have that brand in Canada.

Ok he's holding, will retest in another 30 minutes. I might be in for a long night, he's been peaking these last few days at +8 or +9 :shock: yikes!!

Maybe I should make some coffee..... ~O)
 
Well Leo came up quite a bit in that last half hour and he's starving and hasn't eaten since supper and that tablespoon i fed him over an hour ago. I fed him 1.5 oz of 3% FF and he should be good for the rest of the night, i'll grab a test in an hour and if it's good then me and Leo are going to bed!

Thanks Sienne for helping a little, i wasn't quite as freaked out as i was the other night! Pretty soon i'll be an old pro at this!
